Nicotine tolerance
Since I'm pretty new to the forum, I'll preface this thread by saying I did do a quick search, but didn't see much about this topic. I've been smoking cigars for about 4 years. For the first two years, I smoked very sporadically. Now I smoke about once a week to once a month. For the most part, I can smoke medium strength cigars without any problem (Fuente Hemingway, etc). When I try cigars that are commonly known to be a bit stronger (most recently a Paul Garmirian Soiree, to a lesser extent, any Padron 1000 series) I can't enjoy the flavor because I'll get dizzy, or decide to put the stick down before I get too dizzy. Since I don't plan on increasing the frequency of my smoking, will my tolerance ever increase?

that is normal! Cigar smoking you must build! It is a quest in flavors, strength and your personal preference! The way to the top is long, but it is a beautifull one!

I smoke 1 or 2 per day and there are still smokes that make me sit down for a while. I think that if it is a powerful smoke, or you think it will be make sure you eat something before hand, go slow and enjoy!

I tend to make sure I've eaten recently, and have a coke on hand if I know the cigar will be strong. Such was the case with the PG Soiree, but that wasn't enough. Others tend to sneak up on me. For instance, the padron 1000 series maduros don't seem unreasonably strong to me, and I certainly think they're well balanced, but sometimes they're more than I can fully enjoy. The reason I started smoking cigars was because I was a business major in college, and I decided I should at least have a functional understanding of cigars and golf. My goals in each were to be able to enjoy them with others without having to worry about embarrassing myself. I still can't shoot below 100 consistently, or smoke just about any cigar without having to worry about getting too dizzy. I guess I still have some work to do...

Nicotine tolerance definitely does build up. It may not be as obvious with cigars, but cigarette smokers will definitely attest to this.

Nicotine is a drug and just like all drugs if you use them a lot you will build a tolerance. Hell I can smoke some pretty strong cigars and get away with it. If I smoke a cigarette I couldn't walk a straight line LOL. A lot of people on here talk about sugar helping them. I have found that if I have a glass of Bourbon with a strong cigar it doesn't really effect me the same if I didn't. I'm talking a glass maybe two, not the bottle LOL.

I understand whut you mean. Like tx_tuff said if I'm having a drink I don't get the dizzy feeling as well as some type of sweets can help. I here that dark chocolate goes well with a maduro cigar. I drink E&J VSOP Brandy when I'm smoking at my house.

I watched the last Bond film a couple months ago at my B&M/Club. I had several cups of coffee and I think 3 cigars, and I probably shouldn't have drove home. I got home and laid down for a few hours as it felt like I'd had a night of heavy drinking. So my point it is, it happens. You just gotta smoke more often!

Try not to psyche yourself out when you are smoking known full bodied cigars. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

This happened with me. Here's how I cured it.
Eliminate the caffeine. No coke, no coffee. Sprite works best for me. Sugar helps.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em. |

A big ole can of Monster seems to do the trick for me. I've done the dark chocolate thing before too - excellent pairing with a maduro and you get your sugar rush at the same time. Always eat first and take it slow with the stronger sticks.
If you decide to light up an LFD El Jocko maddie, don't make any plans for a while. ![]() |

I find that smoking in a group helps me not feel the effects of the nicotine. Also, keep a bag of chips or something nearby. Full stomaches help the queasiness it seems.

The Camacho Triple Maduro makes me puke, but I love the flavor so much that I smoke them anyway. Knowing that I will puke going into the smoke doesn't dissappoint me anymore, I just accept it.
