Cigar Strength and Humi Dividers

Hi,

I have 3 brands of cigars coming and I was wondering what the order would be if you ranked them by increasing strength?

1. Graycliff 1666
2. 5 Vegas Archetype
3. Padilla Obsidian

Also, if I have a humidor that does not have a divider in it, but I would like to put one in, what material should I use?

Cardboard, Balsa wood, plastic sheet, piece of cedar plank or something else?

Thanks!

Welcome to the board Joe,

Haven't tried the 1666 yet but so far in the Graycliff line, I find the Espresso and double Espresso to be my favorites. I will be trying one soon, hopefully.

The 5 Vegas Series A is a most flavorful line with a medium bodied strength at best....this is one you will certainly enjoy. My favorite vitola is the Apocalypse 6x6....just had one last night on the deck with a few friends.

The Padilla Obsidian is slightly on the full side of medium body but is also a full flavor cigar.

IMO, both have an earthy, toasty taste with just a hint of molasses. The Padilla having a more pronounced molasses flavor. No leather or spice in the taste profiles, which is not a flavor I enjoy.

Nice choice of cigars.

As for dividers, if you google, spanish cedar dividers, you will find many sources. Stay with the Spanish cedar for breathing purposes. Also, if you put on this board what size you are looking for, we probably can come up with one for you.

Sam

I totally agree with Sam on using Cedar as the divider. The reason being is it takes so much fiddling to get the humidity just right I wouldn't risk putting something else in the humi other than cedar.

Definitly cedar. If my smokes are in cello, which most are,I just let them mingle together. Just dont put them next to any flavored cigars such as an Acid. I keep all of my fiancee's flavored cigars on a seperate humi all together. Just my method to my madness.

Not really a need for dividers unless you just want them. They aren't going to start tasting like one another. It would take many, many years for that to happen. However if you want them cedar only.

Thanks for all the great info, guys.

The dividers where really just to keep the naturals/connecticuts away from the maduros.

Probably should have said that earlier..

Here is a couple sources for Spanish cedar in your area. If you have the ability to make the dividers by yourself.

Don't forget, "Cedar" and "Spanish Cedar" are two very different woods. You don't want the aromatic red stuff used for lining closets, trunks, and hamster cages.

I've found that some cigar boxes have a spanish cedar "insert" that can be removed, it is actually 4 separate pieces that are just jammed into the box shell. These can be removed and used for dividers. Just offhand, I know that the Baccarat and the Padilla Hybrid boxes I have both use this method, very easy to remove the cedar liner. I have a 5 Vegas Gold box that looks like the liner is removable, but it is really in there and I haven't tried to force it out.
