Too much humidity

While seasoning my humidor I decided to go to Wally World and get a digital hygrometer to double check my analog one. I did the salt test with it and it was dead on at 75%.

I put it in the humidor and came back to check it 8 hours later and it read 80% when the analog only read 60%. :arghhhh:
I'm not storing any cigars in there right now.

I was wondering how I get the humidity level down or if putting cigars in there will bring it down to a better level?

Also, I ordered some 65% heartfelt beads to replace the humidifier that came with it.

If you wait till you get the beads just put them in dry. They will absorb the excess humidity and it should stabilize at that point. Or if you have to put your sticks in now leave it open for a couple hours and recheck it to see where it's at.

I'm on my way to Portland, OR in about 15 minutes so I will have to wait until Saturday to get home and put the beads and sticks in.

The cigars are currently in zip lock bags with water pillows. That seems to be keeping them ok for now.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Yup. Beads put in dry will bring it down. You could also place a match or something similar in the lid to create a small gap in the seal. That may take a while, but it will bleed some of that excess humidity out.

The beads or humipaks are the way to go. Very reliable and low maintenance to use.

Putting cigars in there now will lower the humidity, but unfortunatly all that moisture has to go somewhere and you'll end up with soggy, moldy cigars. Get some beads in there and let them work their magic until the humidity levels drop to where they are supposed to be.

You can also add some cedar from another box, to "soak" up the moisture.

Thanks for the great suggestions! It looks like the beads arrived at my home so I'll be putting those in there when I get back.

This doesn't work very well. he cedar will soak up humidity but then it will emit humidity as well. Adding extra cedar isn't a good idea in the long run it'll just amplify the issue.

if you put the beads in dry and the sticks the humidity will come down quickly

Let me elaborate a bit. I meant that you add the cedar to dry out the humidor and then remove it. Of course it will tranfer the humidity back if left in.
