How many stupid questions doI get to ask

Before I get tarred and feathered?

N-E way here goes my first question.

Why can I just use salt to humidify my cigars. If its good enough to calibrate a hydrogemeter?

My best guess why not is that it is to high at a humidity equilibirum of 75% whereas I want something like 70-72 %

AmI going to grow mold at 75%?

This is a great question. Salt would probably work, but I would say that in my experience, cigars resting at 75% would be pretty moist. I like my cigars more at about 65% at 70 degrees. Above 70% I think you would start noticing some issues with draw and burn.

I agree. I prefer my cigars at 65-68. much over that and i notice burn issues and even a little bitter issue.. just my personal preference but I know it seems that alot of guys on here keep it below 70. 75 would be way to high i would think.

Yup, too high a humidity and your cigars will grow big feet, not to mention other issues.

Sounds good, I've actually been using small bowls filled with a salt/splash of water to season some new humidors I just got recently. I notice that the salt will go from wet to completely dry ,and I am albe to keep adding water till a day or so of no change in water leverl ( I have 1 with hydrometer, and two without). I will break down soon and get some of the beads people rave about, both of my humidifiers use the green foam which it seems easier to replace with some beads rather then go cutting up floral arrangement blocks. I can just see my wife now, whats this mess in the kitchen,,,,, oh really you went to a flower shop and didnt buy me flowers!!!!!!!

Another thing I want to try is I have a bunch of tins of acid cigars( krush me thinks) in many of their flavors (my fav is blue and red). I also ordered online a big brick of 50 cheapo cigars. I'm thinking that if I take all of my little cigarillos, and mix them with many (not all 50 ) of my cheapos and age them together, that the cheapos will grab some of that aroma from the Acid cigars, turning an ok smoke ( havent tried them yet so who knows) into a more exciting smoke. Stupid question is, 1 will this work in under a year for the flavor exchange, and 2. I wont ruin my acid cigarillos right, they will maybe absorb some flavor, but since they are so flavorfull I wont notice the diff, and I will have some synergistic results?????

You sound like an engineer.

My suspicion is you will notice some transfer of flavors in even just a month or two - especially if the cigars are physically touching. I have no idea what the net effect will be on your acids. Just PLEASE don't tell us about your acid infused Padron 1964's or OpusX's. :eeek:

Yes, just like everything else, having the right tool for the job makes a big difference. Invest in some beads in the near future. Sure, you can make a SAE wrench turn a metric bolt, but eventually you are going to round the head.
