I usually also cut off slightly below the burn ring for a new start the next time.

What do people here typically use to preserve a cigar if you want smoke it again?

P.S. I've also used tubes that cigars come in, for that cigar only of course.
I have tried many ways to save my unfinished smokes and IMHO it has never worked out. Right now, I have a Benchmade and a San Cristobal that I am looking at in the ashtray, both unfinished and I tried relighting. Both dog rockets right now. Very harsh, very untasty, and just plain yukky. Would recommend that if you cant finish a cigar, cut it in half before you light it and get two small smokes out of it. Have done this on a few occasions and it works, especially on the golf course when lots of guys have forgotten their smokes and we need to share. Just my 2 cents worth.
Best,

well yes they are made by the same brand and they are named within the same line but generally those are short filler (only because its near impossible to roll a cigar that is 3.5" with a 28 ring gauge) so they are usually machine made as well...

Let me throw some gas on this subject.

I disagree with "Never relight" or "Never Enclose a PSC (previously smoked cigar)"

I have two stainless steel tubes, 1" outside diameter and a 54 gage just fits. I use one for fresh cigars and the other for those in the process of being smoked.

The only time I have on a regular basis to smoke is on my morning commute, about 20 minutes. I don't have any small cigars, and cutting them in half doesn't work to well for me. So I can smoke the same cigar twice and sometimes (with less than stellar results) three times. I have had great success with Perdomo Slow Aged.

FWIW my .02

If you hollow out the ash and blow it out (similar to if you relit it), it may not be as pungent.. however, it may still give a bad smell.

I should clarify, my tube is airtight and I purge and ash it before dropping it in and sealing it up. So it's actually better than just letting it go out. In fact I cut off a Curly Head and dropped it in the tube the other day and it just wasn't the same.

I tried it once as well, a friend an I were smoking some RP sungrowns, the rest of the group wanted to move so we snipped them and placed them in his leather 2 fingered case and took off. Went to relight them later and not only did it taste bad... his case has still not got the smell out of it.

I just call it a loss and toss it. I've never saved a smoked cigar.

I thought about this for some time,,,remember those tips that George Burns would use as a filter/holder for his cigars? I got one of those along time ago and when I knew that I wouldnt have time for a full cigar I cut it in half, smoked the half with the clipped head and stored the other half until I wanted to smoke it,,,put it in the holder, lit it and was good to go! Friggin genius as I had the same enjoyable smoke without having to deal with a cigar that was put out and resmoked later with that acrid taste to it.
