80 % humidity for 2 weeks straight
So i have been patient, i've keep en eye on things for 2 weeks and am still concerned. my new humi is running 67-70 degrees, and never has it dropped below 75% humidity. currently it is running at 80.. in doing some research i have discovered that i have also bought a cheap ebay humidor that is NOT fully lined with spanish cedar, and the "glass" is plastic.
I am using the rH beads from CI and a also did the salt test on the digimeter and it was a solid 75% after 2 days in the double bag. also it's a 150ct humi with 15(been in since the start) and another 15 i added sunday afternoon. adding the new cigars did nothing to change or effect the humidity. Any thoughts? |

Try using some different humi beads. Cigarmony has the ones that everybody here loves. And they also sell the 65% ones, so that would solve the problem.

WOW first thought is open it up and get the % down! Then get some lower % beeds like Frank said and that should help... Bro just MHO but i would do anything i could to make sure those things didnt sit that high for another minute!

ok, 2 factors that MIGHT be contributing, but im not sure
the room humidity was/is 80% and the lids on the beads was not on correctly. does the top and all the holes really do anything ? cigars are safe and in plastic bags now. away from the high humidity. |

So then wouldn't that mean your seal for your humidor is no good. I mean you did get it from ebay and it was cheap. Not really the two things that equal reliability and quality. Container of beads should be open/have some way to have humidity from the beads and environment in humidor to mingle. It should self regulate. But since room humidity is 80 try putting more spanish cedar in the humidor and test the seal... Get weather stripping or something around the lips.

Have you tried the light test to check the seal?

been doing the salt test for the last couple days and trying to get my hydrometer to reset to 75% . it is being a PITA, but im getting there. as far as the humidor goes i brought it upstairs in the house, and emptied it out, just put in the beads, and the analog hydrometer on the outside is reading right at 70%. so as soon as i get my digi reset to 75 i will put it in there and make sure it is acutally 70% in the humi.

after the salt test reading of 75% on the dot. placed the digi in the humi and left it over night. its reading 73% currently, which is MUCH better than the 80 it was before. going to keep testing for a few more days, get some new batteries for the hydrometer and maybe pick up another one as well.

Sounds like you're making progress - hope it settles down where you want it. I've had very good luck with a couple large Rubbermaid containers that will hold about 75 cigars and beads - a nice humi still looks a lot better.

I'm sitting at 70/70 today FINALLY. but there is a catch.
i took the beads out and used a water pillow that i was going to use for transport mostly. I also checked for light getting in around the lid and did find some, so i put the humidor inside (maybe my next humidor) a large wooden cabinate and shut the door. today all is well in the humi WITH all my cigars in it. going to try this for a few days till i get some 65% beads on the way. |

I highly recommend, Heartfelt beads. Never had a problem with it for 6 months. between 63% to 65% in my nice homemade coolidor. You can reactivate the beads with distilled water. I am not sure, on the humi packs? Can you reactivate those?

In addition, most humidors perform best at 60-70% capacity.
