not enough humidity and too low temp

well im having a problem with my humidor its just not where i want it to be. well its reading about 63 and its just driving me crazy because im doing everything i can to raise the humidity and its not working. i know that the temp and rh doesnt have to be at 70/70 but i prefer my cigars at 72 on the nose i like them a little more moist to let that cool smoke come through. anyways i tried to season the humi i messed up and used tap water i also used tap on the humidifcation system for a while this might screw things up. my cigars are getting harder. i also put a shot glass in there filled with water and i try to see if that works but its still not doing anything can anybody help. i dont want to resort to tuppadors but i might have to :support:

Dan,

Have you tested the seal on your humi? The dollar bill test or the drop test?

What type of gage do you have if its analog toss it and get a digital and calibrate it first.

Dan, as these guys said, get a digital hygrometer and do the salt test. You might consider getting an adjustable hygrometer. They are fairly cheap and after the salt test, you can adjust it to the correct RH.

I'm really suprised that your cigars don't have burn problems or tunnel out at 72% Rh. I prefer my humidors to stay at 63%. When I was at 68-70% I was having all kinds of problems with my cigars.

I understand how fustrating humidity problems can be. I hope you are able to resolve.

well i this is my first humi, and i definiatly will try the salt test, when i say that i prefer 72 percent im just saying that i like my cigars to be a little more moist when they are around 65 and below i find that they harden up and burn much harsher however i find and have done research on how when you are a little about 70 the cigars become a little more moist and the burn cooler making the cigars less harsh and more flavorful. thank you for the advice though i will certainly try this out.
