As far as the hygrometer needing calibration that is an old wives tail. I never calibrate a digital one, if I notice im keeping my humidor fine and the digital or analog is showing something that doesn't seem to fit I chuck them and get a new one...

A hygrometer while helpful should just be used for estimation. If your cigars are well kept, who cares what they say?

If you get the beads, you ALMOST don't need a hygrometer. The beads when properly taken care of will keep your humi rock solid. The hygrometer is the back up to the beads.

That's how good the beads are!

I have about 8 different digital hygrometers ranging in price from $7 (Wal-Mart) to $35 (Radio Shack - 5+ years old) and they all work well. Some are spot on and some need to be adjusted. Price does not seem to matter - as long as it is digital and you calibrate it.

And if you want maintenance free, all I can say is BEADS, BEADS, BEADS!!
They will change your life. I probaby only add water to mine once every 3 months - they are the best!

Good luck - I want one of those Tony S humidors but don't have the $$
