heartfelt I keep my humidors in the 65%-68% range. Temp is generally any where between 60 and 70. 3k again! |

The best bang for your buck is beads. You can get them here.
http://heartfeltindustries.com or here http://www.cigarmony.com The RH you choose is personal preference. I use 65% now. I used to use 70% but had burn and draw issues. Once I went to 65% all that went away.

I love my diamond crown device, and i dont have to fill it that often but if I was going to buy something I would 100% go with beads.

You can find a decent digital at Wal-Mart for $8. Or get one at either of the above sites for $15-$20. Just be sure to calabrate it first. Not sure what you mean by softer.

Go with the beads. As far as harder or softer, it depends on how it's rolled. If it's dry, it'll crack. If it's overhumidified, it'll burn like crap and may go out on you a lot. You'll get the hang of it, but don't overthink it. I keep mine at room temp right now, but I'm working on my wine cooler humidor to lower the temp. Humidor should be 65-70 depending on what you like. I prefer closer to 68 or 70.

the lower the rh the harder the cigar will be the higher the rh the softer the cigar will be this is because as the cigar gets more moist it becomes softer
i would invest in beads if you want to go even cheaper get some floral foam and shove it in a small glass tray or a shot glass than fill it up with distilled water but if you have the money than buy the beads right now i cant afford them so i am using other methods :] i would love to keep my humi at 71-72 but i just cant i have a crappy analog hygrometer and its just not working out i also open and close it too often im not sure about how reliable this company is that you mentioned im sure they are great look at what its made of make sure its not some crappy wood , you want spanish cedar. personally i like my cigars a little bit on the softer side just because i find the smoke to be much cooler and calmer and i can smoke a full bodied cigar and enjoy the full flavor without the harsh and bitter smoke i hope i helped you out a little bit enjoy the smokes . |

I highly recommend beads also. Made my cigar-keeping so much easier.
I got mine from Cigarmony.com - get as many as you need based on the dimensions of your humidor. I perfer the 65%, but that's my preference. |

I use the 70 percent beads. I probably add an ounce of water every month and a half in the summer here in ohio and maybe every 3 to 4 works in the winter. The higher humidity beads will retain moisture longer. I just spritz the beads and let alone. You really dont need a hygrometer with the beads, but I have one in the coolidor, and it hovers around 67-70 percent.

Well.... I think their hydrometers are the best, but I do not care for their humidification system. You cannot put 50/50 in it, only distilled water. I'd get the beads for humidification.
