A lot of cigar companies are behind the curve on technology. I guess it's kind of an old fashioned business but it seems to me that the internet is a very effective way to interact with your customers.

Hey guys, I work for Alec Bradley cigars, my name is Olindo. I am in charge of updating my companies website...and we are actually starting over with a brand new website that should be up for the new year.

Im not a big cigar person so my question to everyone is...what do you guys look for in a cigar website? What do you guys like and dislike?

As the guy who keeps the company website current, I can tell you it is a constant struggle. The problem is generating new content. Everybody floods you with stuff when the website is established but, try to get a brief paragraph or two six months later! I empathize with those trying to accomplish this and applaud those who do. It's not easy!

gurkha is probably the worst. just for the fact that they come out with so many new lines and they hardly have any of them on their website. it seems all they have are their ultra premium lines. nothing below that really. sort of disappointing when you have to go look around the internet for an hour or more sometimes for some information on a gurkha cigar.

This is what I want to know. All the cigars the manufacturer is making. What sizes in every cigar, the blends (wrapper, binder, filler) and where to buy them. It would also be very cool to have a history section showing all the cigars ever produced by said company. When for how long and how many produced. And of course plenty of photos.

This is what I look for when I can find a cigar manufacturers website. I don't always find it.

Surprised that out of all of the sites out there, you mention CAO and RP, whom have two of the most interactive and technology styled sites..

Especially RP with the integrated FLVs.

Many are definately behind.. which is a bit surprising, as these cigars are usually in the works for some time, they would have ample time to get the developer (or development company) to get the part of the site complete and ready to push live as soon as the new product is announced.

Not sure if Daniel is going to go ahead with this (or who is in charge of this at this point).. but in the site wish list, I recommended creating a Cigar Database (similar to IMDB), where all cigars can be added, each size, available wrappers, etc and descriptions and ratings of all.

I believe the site is in PHP, which I am not strong in..

if CL didn't want to go ahead with the development of it, I wouldn't mind building it externally and have it linked, but there would be no way for me to pass authentication.. so it would be a bit disconnected, which isn't what I would want (and I'm sure others would agree)..

It'd certainly be a great resource for all.. I'll PM him and see what can be done.
