After going through all these other methods, I've settled on simply cutting it... No fuss, no muss, and I can't taste a bit of difference either way. And I've probably smoked twenty of these punched and a hundred with a regular cut...

I use the punch method if I have one handy. Towards the end, to me, it doesn't get the tar build up as bad. I think the other side of the hole collects the majority of the build up.

I believe they're made to squeeze and pop open like the Victor Sinclair jobs. Personally, I just cut a clip right off the end with a sharp blade on a flat surface. That's the way I prefer them.
