Re: Anyone mark dates on their sticks wrappers?

I put a piece of masking tape on boxes with the month and year purchased. That way I know the date purchased of any cigars in my humidors since the boxes stay in a cooler and I restock the humidors from there. If I went beyond that I would be getting as anal as I was as a pipe smoker. Decided about 6 years ago that cigars were for enjoyment, not collecting or obsessing over every minute detail of their existence. If temperature and relative humidity are good, I know that they will be good to smoke.

I hear you, and may end up that way eventually, but for now I like fussing with my sticks, and this is just something I enjoy doing.

Re: Anyone mark dates on their sticks wrappers?

I used to put a special label on the foot of every stick (see picture attachment) but recently I gave it up. Too much work and the cigars don't taste any different. These days I take the cello off every stick (yes indeed) and put them in the Squid-A-Dor.

Re: Anyone mark dates on their sticks wrappers?

I'm far more anal than just writing the date on my cello. I give every cigar an inventory # which relates back to a spreadsheet that has three tabs and tracks the following:
Inven #, Cigar maker i.e. illusione, model i.e. '88', vitola, Wrapper, Binder, Filler, Date acquired, acquired from.

Then I have another tab that has all the same info that I move any cigars I have smoked to and has a date smoked and simple review column. And yet another tab that tracks any I have given away, traded, passed or bombed that has a column for date passed and to whom.

After the initial build of the spread sheet it only takes me a minute to add a new stick to the inventory. I use a Sharpie to write the inven # on the cello and then fill out the info on the spreadsheet.

Just to show you guys how much of a geek I am. When I'm home sick or just have a Saturday that I don't feel like doing anything I empty all my humidors and do a full blown inventory of my cigars and rotate the stock.

What really screws my system up is when I smoke a cigar that I didn't inventory. I debate with myself everytime whether I should put it in and just immediately move it to the smoked tab, so I'll have a record of it.

Sadly all of this evolved from my desire to stop buying cigars I'd already tried and didn't like. Then it developed into trying to figure out which aspect made me like a particular cigar so that I could perdict what cigars I would like ...
