Dickman Cut Question
Hey all,
I was just smoking an Oliva Serie G Maduro, torpedo style, and while cutting it, I decided to use the Dickman cut. The first two thirds of the cigar went by with fairly significant burn problems (which I've not experienced before with Oliva) which burned significantly lower on the cigar on the side which was cut shorter due to the slant. In the final third, I decided to see if it had anything to do with the cut, and recut the cap of the cigar to make it flat instead of slanted. This corrected the burn issue when I touched the cigar up to an even burn line. I'm wondering if my adjusting the cut would have had anything to do with the correction of the burn line, or if I was dealing with a dud cigar. thanks for any input. Cheers! ![]()

Re: Dickman Cut Question
I don't believe so. I've smoked alot of torps (perdomo whore, and perdomo makes nice torps) using a variety of cuts, and never noticed a burn issue. By far my burn issues are usually because of young sticks, too much humidity, or not properly rotating my stock. I preffer the dickman on torps, it funnels the smoke up to my palette and doesn't concentrate the tar as bad.
Also try holding the cigar beteen puffs to correct the burn. The lower bit burns hotter, so I hold it with the less-burned portion downward between puffs.

Re: Dickman Cut Question
I disagree.. one of the guys at my B&M did this cut to one of my torpedo's once and it burned incredibly uneven.. upon straightening the cut on my own, it fixed itself fairly quickly.

Re: Dickman Cut Question
I thought you only used the dickman cut if the cigar had a hard draw..

Re: Dickman Cut Question
I use the dickman cut on all my torps. never had a major problem. I say, if you have a duplicate of any torpedo cigar, do a little experiment. Place both in the same conditions, (even dry box them together if you do that sort of thing) and smoke both, one with the dickman, one with a normal, straight cut. See the results. Then tell us!
