Re: pirates gold
The consensus from many older posts is Flor de Oliva. Generally speaking, most Oliva cigars are well received and highly rated.
Although they don't compare to the Oliva G, O and V series, the Flor De Oliva are a good value for the price. Well constructed. Good burn. Available in Nautral or Maduro wrapper. Can be had for under $2 a stick if you get a good deal. They are pretty common, so you could probably find them in a local B&M and try some out before buying a bundle. |

Re: pirates gold
If my memory serves me correctly, this cigar was the brainchild of Rolando Reyes Jr, and originally was manufactured by RR Sr to be marketed by RR Jr as an expensive premium.
It was a good cigar, but did not make much of a splash in the super premium market. At one point in it's life, production moved from PI in Honduras to the Reyes Bros. (no relation to Rolando Reyes) factories in the DR. The flavor profile went in the toilet for some reason. I believe it has been re-blended & manufactured in several different locales quite a few times over the years. It now seems to be mass produced as a cheap Reyes Family offering & I doubt that today's cigar bears much resemblance to the original blend. Please note that only part of this would I swear to in a court of law, and much of it is speculation. ![]()

Re: pirates gold
I tried a couple - they started okay for a yard gar and then by the middle took a quick dive into unsmokable drek.

Re: pirates gold
I just got a bundle from CBid for a decent price. I only bought 20 so the risk is lessened.
