Storing Cigars in coffins?

Hello all! Just wondering, I have some cigars that came in cedar coffins. What is the proper (best?) way to store them in the Humidore? Should I leave them in their coffins, or should I take them out? Thanks everyone! -John

My rule is always store then as they made them.

I always keep my cigars in all there packing. Coffins, tubos, cello, etc

I tend to agree with K Baz. The only thing I can think of that would lean me toward taking them out would be the flavor the cedar will impart to the cigars. I don't think it would have any more of an effect than the cedar lining your humidor, so there shouldn't be a noticeable difference...but I'm not positive on that. You could experiment by taking a few out of the coffins and seeing if there is a noticeable flavor change. I'm sure others will have more specific advice, but good luck.

Re: Storing Cigars in coffins?

I've left them in,i've taken them out,i've mixed them and seperated them and haven't found any difference in flavor in either case as far as I could tell. The only time a cigar has changed flavor for me is with age and/or enviroment.

Generally I store them as I get them i.e. in it's cellophane wrapper if it has one or in it's coffin with the exception of tubos.I take them out of the tubes so I can view them for any signs of mold or distress.
