Exclamation Smoking beetle damaged sticks?

I just came back from my local B&M; with two sticks I just bought. A RP Signature and a Oliva G Cammy. In the car ride home I decided to inspect the sticks, and noticed that they each have 1 or so pinholes in them. Not taking the risk I put them in a small cigar storage back and labeled it "infected" as to not get them mixed up.

Over the past few weeks me and some friends have noticed that the sticks we bought from this B&M have been burning slow and weird (all of them, of different types) and we thought it might be a little to humid in their humidor.

Regardless- I have a few questions.

1. Does this sound like beetles?
2. Did I take appropriate action?
and the biggest one...
should I smoke them since I am a penny pincher!?

If there is only a couple of holes, smoke it. It the stick looks like it was shot with a shotgun, I wouldn't.

You'll get a nice nutty flavor! LMAO

I agree. Just the thought of bugs in my stick creeps me out enough to not smoke them. You would think that they would take them back.

If they are pinholes as you say, I don't think you have a beetle problem. If the holes are a bit larger than what you would exect from a pin, then it may be beetles. Clear pictures of the holes would help. You can generally expect a beetle hole to be about 1/16th of an inch. Either way, toss 'em both in the freezer for a couple of days, and then in the fridge for 1 day. After that they should smoke fine.

Can't imagine any possible reason to smoke a cigar infected with insects. I don't smoke cigar butts out of ashtrays either.

If it is just a small hole that can be covered with my finger then Im smoking away. If it looks like gopher tunnels then no I will not smoke it. I will turn it in to the shop and get another one.

Re: Smoking beetle damaged sticks?

My parents had just moved to Cuba with the promise of a job for my dad and as well as a house for us to live in. There were ninety of us. Mom, Dad, myself, my 42 sisters and my 45 brothers. Arriving there on Christmas eve, we discovered to our dismay that there was no house available.

Improvising and living in several tents made of leaves for approximately three months was quite an incredible experience, as our ages ranged from sixteen months to eleven days. Housing was hard to find, but eventually we moved into a tiny tightly rolled home that was not much, but better than nothing.

It didn't matter to us that there was not hot running water, no carpets, no modern conveniences, no telephone, no proper bathroom, just one long room, some with cracks in the walls and holes in the floor, carefully covered with small pieces of pectin. It didn't matter. We were just grateful to be able to live somewhere other than in 'tents' outside

We had live in the house for about two years when it happened:
My brothers and sisters were noisily playing in the floor, while dad was outside collecting more food for the evening meal. Suddenly, there was a distinct smell of fire. As we scanned the horizon we could see large plumes of smoke rising up in the distance. Instinctively we sensed the urgency of getting away. Was it a bush fire or a neighbor burning trash? At the thought of being caught in a fire, I felt a rising sense of dread.

Just as soon as mom got up from her side of the table to check out the situation, I found myself engulfed by hot leaping flames. Screaming and panic stricken I rushed towards the door, desperate to cool down by the cold night air and escape from the burning heat. Instinctively mum tried to grab me and extinguish the flames with her bare hands. Hearing all the commotion in the kitchen, dad raced in, threw me to the floor and rolled me over and over until the flames were out.

I lay there crying shocked and frightened and in incredible pain, my clothes where charred and stuck to my body. I looked around terrified as I saw many of my brothers and sisters erupting in flames. Thick smoke was pouring through the house chocking off any chance to breathe. What was happening! Blisters formed all over my body, they were huge, large areas of skin had peeled off showing raw, reddened flesh, weeping and exposed.

The smell was terrible, flesh burning and rotting and falling off. What had we done to deserve this miserable death! My world began to darken, I fell to the ground as more flames raced at us… the last image I remember was my family gasping, eyes bloodshot in horror…

Beetles are people too!

HA!

Re: Smoking beetle damaged sticks?

Wow...that was a pretty awesome story. I kinda felt bad for the beetles for just a split second to I realize that they are filthy bugs that destroy our precious sticks that we invest our hard earned money into. DEATH TO ALL BEETLES!!! Besides as silly as it may sound, If I thought there was a bug in a cigar I had...the last place I'm putting that cigar is in my mouth. I would return it to the B&M. I'm sure they would be cool with changing them out with some fresh ones. DIE BEETLES!!!
