I would think that it would depend on the humidity level like one of the other posters stated. A friend of mine keeps his humidor near 80% becasue he likes his cigars wet so he can chew on them and yes they do have a strong cedar smell to them but I wouldn't call it to much.

I never get tired of seeing your humidor Sam. When I'm feeling better I will smoke the one I got in the pass from you Saturday. It did smell like cedar big time but I don't think thats a bad thing.

Very nice humidor. You have so many drawers you probably are getting a cedar influence. It will gradually go away though, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Is there a thing as too much spanish cedar for a cigar?

Glad to see this thread. Just had some 3/8" spanish cedar stock delivered that is nearly dripping with sap. The S.C. smell is great, but very strong. I ordered the planks for shelves in my wine-adoor, but will need to dry them out somehow and scrape/sand the sap off first. Think putting these in a wine-adoor or cool-adoor now would overwhelm any cigars stored there, at least until the boards are cured enough that the sap quits running.

Anyone have a suggestion on the best way to cure the boards?

What a fantastic looking cabinet!

Youve hit on it. Its not about how much cedar, but rather how much oils. In addition to there being different phenotypes of cedar, where its actually grown, and especially, how it's cured is the key. Kiln drying is perhaps the worst thing to happen to wood since blight. There is no substitute for age. Trying to find aged woods nowadays is like trying to find rocking horse poopy.

I am in the camp of those who tend to like a little cedar note in my smoke. But, to answer your question, sure there can be too much. As to how much is too much, I guess that's in the tongue of the beholder.
