Is there a thing as too much spanish cedar for a cigar?

The only reason I ask is when I gift a cigar or give one in a pass people know its from my humidor because of the way I designed it. Even when they light up there is a massive amount of cedar flavor. This is something that I have gotten accustomed to because its my humi but I dont know if others believe its too overpowering.

Attached are some pictures of my humi when I first built it and does not reflect the current stock.

Sam! . That's a beautiful cabinet you made! Thanks for the glimpse of greatness!

As to the too much cedar question, I would think that it would be very subjective and Gar/ brand/ leaf specific. I'm guessing that it is possible to have too much of an influence, but unlikely. I think that to really know, I would need to smoke several sticks from your "Dor" of wonder...

Re: Is there a thing as too much spanish cedar for a cigar?

Only time I have heard of "to much" cedar was for the seleccion robusto and seleccion pyramid cases. Heard some rummbles also about the H Upmann travel Humidor.

Now I can not back this up having not smoked any of them but I can imagine considering the huge amount of wood in relation to the few number of cigars in each presentation.

I can also see it considering these appear to be very well sealed and the cedar aroma would not escape.

I haven't smoked something from your humidor, so I cannot say if it's too cedary or not.

Yes, it's possible and very common. Judging from your humi, I could probably smell your cigar from ten feet away. But, some people really like it.

Gorgeous cabinet!

I personally don't think there's such a thing as "too much" Spanish Cedar as I tend to really like the flavor/aroma of it when smoking my cigar. Not to mention the blast of tobacco-cedar smell when you go to open your humi!

I don't think you can have too ,much cedar. If so we would all be repulsed by tubos with cedar wrappers.

I personally love a Hoyo Dark Sumatra after a couple years sleep and they are wrapped in cedar and sleeping in my all spanish cedar humidor.

Lol,,,,I agree with Dave but will go out on a limb here and say I have never ever had too much cedar taste in my cigars. If there was a way to infuse it I'd be all over it.

I agree with Jonesee here. Technically speaking a cigar absorbs more of the cedar when it is "wet" and I know of some friends who keep their humi at 70 degrees so that they get the cedar scent into their gars. As far as getting "too much" cedar,,,have never had that and I've been smoking for 40 years.

Wow, thats a great looking humidor. As for the cedar, I'm not quite sure as I have never had a stick that had too much of a cedar taste.

Re: Is there a thing as too much spanish cedar for a cigar?

Well I'll chime in on this with my two cents. I'v noticed over the years that a stick from a new humi will be heavy with cedar. But over time the cedar absorbs the leaf smell. I'ts a catch 22 for me I like the new cedar smell of a fresh humi, but I have a 10 year old humi that I will open sometimes just to get a schnauz full of the aroma....

Re: Is there a thing as too much spanish cedar for a cigar?

Thanks for everyones comments. I personally like the way my humi is responding. I believe that it has helped out a lot in the aging process as well as plume. Its just that there is quite a bit of cedar surrounding the cigars as the shelves are only an inch wide.
