There are to many good mail order companys out there. I ordered from them once. Never again. They try to get you in with low prices on no-name cigars. You will be disapointed.

And, for $0.70 a piece? Pretty tolerable. But, they will likely mail catalogs and email you (maybe even call you) for the rest of your life.
Hi Jerry, I have to agree with what you said about Thompson Cigar, They do have some fairly good cigars for the money they charge and you are probably right about them mailing catalogs to you to often but I guess if you want to buy cigars that you can afford then they are the ones to deal with.

Maybe the people that know cigars better won't deal with them, but as for the people that enjoy smoking a good hand rolled cigar for a reasonable price must appreciate them or they would not have been able to stay in business this long, they seem to do alright by me so I can't say anything bad about them.

You can't please all of the people all of the time but if you can please some of the people some of the time you should do pretty good with all of the people you are dealing with.

You are better off smoking Cremosas.

Re: Thompson Cigars??

They were the first company I ordered from online. I tried the Leprechaun cigars. I was not to impressed with them, that is the only time I have ordered from them, I have ordered from CI and Famous who I will continue to order from but not Thompsons. I have also tried a belmondo I got if free from some where don't remember all I can say is was it was just ok not something I would order.

Re: Thompson Cigars??

I used to order from Thompson a lot. It appears that they aren't stocking real name brand cigars anymore. Only a few in the catalog are brand names.

I can't seem to stear away from the Monster. It was down for about a week and it nearly killed me.

Anyone hear about what the problem was?

Re: Thompson Cigars??

I have to chime in on this one.

First of all I have to say that yes they do call, email, and send you catalogs at a feverish pace. And at times it can be annoying. But........
I have smoked a lot of their house brands. A few I can think of are Yankee Clipper, Belmondo, El Cordova, Bagatelle, Don Lugo, Paso Doble, Uniques, Old Timers, and 1898 Indepencia. Some of them were way below average. Some were just o.k. But I have to say the Don Lugo was a great mixed filler smoke especially considering they are around a dollar a piece. My favorite of the group is the 1898 indepencia. It is a beautiful cigar that I have finished almost a box of with no compliants. It has an sumatra wrapper, with all long filler, and it is one of the best two and half dollar smokes that I have tried. It is mild but with lots of flavor. I would suggest anyone who loves mild smokes give it a try.

So I guess the point of this rant is...................... Don't knock it till you try it. If you have had a bad experience with them then by all means stay away but if you haven't tried them give it a shot. You might be pleasantly suprised.

Re: Thompson Cigars??

My initial 2 orders were from Thompson's. I'm brand new to smoking and wanted to get some sticks more cheaply than my local B&M. I bought a 10 pack of Fuente's, and, as an afterthought, a humidor that came with 25 house sticks. I bought the whole schmere more cheaply than I could've in town, and I have to admit, the humidor was the selling point on the house cigars. I've yet to try one, so I won't comment on their quality, but there was something odd about how that whole transaction went down that makes me second-guess ordering from them again...I got my Fuentes just fine, in a reasonable amount of time but got an email that the entire humi package had been backordered. The expected in stock dates for the various components ranged from about a week away, to a couple of months for the humidor itself. Fine, I thought, this is a new "hobby" for me, I'll roll with it for awhile and consider the situation. About a week later I got another "notice of backorder" with the same info, I also noticed some humidors on cigarauctioneer.com so I decided to throw a low bid in on one, determined to cancel my Thompson's order if I won. A couple days later, my bid took the CA auction, and my Thompson's humi package showed up the very next day. I don't believe that was anything more than coincidence, I just got to wondering if maybe TC strung me out a couple of extra weeks in the hopes that I'd cancel their "special" and go with a higher priced "in stock" package. No proof of any kind, just wondering.

I've since discovered that there are better deals to be had on some of the other sites. (Damn you Devil Site!)

Re: Thompson Cigars??

Being from the "Show Me State" I had to try Thompson's for myself. So awhile back I ordered about $100 of cigars they had on sale. Here what I expect from an order:

Free shipping
Confirmation of order
Order tracking
Next day shipping
Well packaged product

Here is what I got from Thompson:

$7.95 shipping
No confirmation of order
No tracking
Order did not ship for 2 weeks
Product came in over sized box with no packing

Sorry, but when a vendor can't get anything right they do not deserve my business.

Re: Thompson Cigars??

I have never bought Thompson's house brands, so I can't speak to the cigars. However, no company has ever annoyed me into doing business with them, and Thompson's is the cigar company equivalent of spyware and the tracking cookie. I bought from them once - before I knew better - and it took almost a year for the solicitation calls to end. They recently started sending me catalogs again out of the blue (I haven't ordered from them again). Catalogs I can tolerate. Three or four calls a day to the house, that's a different matter entirely.

I agree on there business practices. I ordered something 3day - thompsons did not fill the oreder for two days - we hit the weekend - I recieved it 8 days later.
It is amazing with business practices like this, they stay open.
