Re: Candela?
Ahh candela, the oft forgotten wrapper. I am one of the few remaining regular candela smokers around. Unfortunately, there aren't many manufacturers still making them, though there does seem to be a minor resurgence in the last few years.
CAO, Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, and La Gloria Cubana have all made them in the past, but don't currently offer any. Of those that do make them, Arturo Fuente has the most diverse offering. They currently make their Churchill, Spanish Lonsdale, 858, and Seleccion Privada #1 with a candela wrapper, as well as their curly head. These are very good smokes, and one of the easist to find. If your B&M carries any candela cigars, they are more than likely going to be Arturo Fuente 858. Camacho, Indian Tabac, Astral, and Macanudo all have current production candela cigars. These are all decent smokes. There are a few others that offer candela, like Iguana, and a few Thompson house brands, but those seem to be of poor quality and not very flavorful. For me, the candela offers a flavor that no other tobacco can deliver. They all have a tangy sweetness with the slightest hint of black pepper that is very distinct and unique to this wrapper. Some call it a grassy flavor, saying it tastes the way fresh cut grass smells. It's not for everyone, but it is my favorite. I rank the candela cigars like this: Hoyo de Monterrey - Governor candela (out of production, though I have quite a few stashed.) Arturo Fuente - Selec. Privada & 858 Arturo Fuente - Spanish Lonsdale Arturo Fuente - Churchill La Gloria Cubana - Wavell (out of production, I have none) Macanudo Jade - Baron De Rothschild Astral candela Indian Tabac Candela Camacho - Monarca candela Any other candela isn't worth smoking to me. This, however, is just my opinion. Yours may be different. I hope this helps. And if you have any questions I haven't answered, please feel free to ask. I'll answer anything I can and if I can't answer, I'll try to point you in the right direction.

Re: Candela?
I might add that clicking on the word candela at the bottom left side of the page below the word Tags will open another door of opinion, because that's just the way this place rolls.

Re: Candela?
I have been pretty happy with the Don Thomas candelas that you can get off the devil site. They can be had pretty cheap and they are very well rolled and perform well.

Re: Candela?
I've tried a couple of candelas. Found them to be good, sweet tasting. But, as i was just learning about cigars at the time, I was encouraged to go with other wrappers at the time. Don't know that I'd buy a whole box at one time, but I'd try a few more.

Re: Candela?
I've had the 858 and liked it, it's kind of cool to see the dark binder underneath the light wrapper. Let us know what you think when you try some out.

Re: Candela?
The candela was the most popular wrapper in the US at one time, ie the fifties when CCs were still present. Americans were all about mild smokes.

Re: Candela?
Very true. But they went on the decline in the 70s, and have never come close to their former glory.

Re: Candela?
I believe this weekend or sometime next week I'll be ordering a 5er of Camacho Candelas. I wish some of them would pop up on Cbid but no luck so far. I also wish my local B&M had some Candela's in stock...
