Cigars for Groomsmen

Hello everyone. I just joined the forum in hopes that some of you could guide me in the right direction. I am currently searching for some nice cigars to give to my groomsmen as gifts at my upcoming wedding. The intent is to enjoy them after the rehearsal dinner the night before. Myself and my groomsmen are not experts or frequent smokers, however we tend to enjoy a stogie or two when we all get together.

What in your opinion would be the 3 cigars I should consider in the $10-15 CDN range? I have seen some rave reviews of the Ashton VSGs and the Oliva Serie V's. Are these cigars I should seriously consider?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Cigars for Groomsmen

If the groomsmen arent regular cigar smokers a milder cigar might be good. Rome y Jullieta, or Macanudo would fit the bill, quality mild smokes with enough brand recognition that even a casual smoker would know they had a quality stick.

Congrats on the marraige... and now is the time to fill the humidors, before you say I do... just messin with ya, wishing you two many years of happiness.

Thanks for the kind words.

That is something I was pondering. I would like to get them quality cigars, but not potentially overpower them.

Are there any other quality mild cigars I should consider?

The regular Ashton line would be good - mild-medium, but still very good.

Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials! Marrying mrsreindeer was the best thing I ever did. bdw1984 has a couple of great suggestions there, if you can find 'em in the $10 - $15 range...I'm speaking more of Opus...I was going to suggest them if you can find them at list price or buy them from a BOTL (Brother-of-the-Leaf) on here. Otherwise, you're gonna be spending $30+ each. Not worth that in my opinion but they're great smokes.

I'd also throw into the mix:

Rocky Patel Decade
Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 (more tame than the spicier 1992 and quite good)
Cusano Double Connecticut (nice, smooth & creamy - much more interesting than damn Macanudo's!)

Have a great time!

Padron 1964's are also good in that price range. But if they are not avid cigar smokers, go for the Opus if you can find them at retail.

Re: Cigars for Groomsmen

I'd also suggest the Rocky 1990s. They come in all shapes and sizes, you can find them everywhere, and they have a pretty nice look to them as well. Anything by Rocky is a pretty good choice.

I am a pretty big fan of Oliva, and the Vs top of the line.

If you got the cash, Padron 64s are solids.

If you are going to smoke at the wedding get a good cutter, or ask the retailer to cut them for you. You don't want tobacco in your mouth with those expensive pics.

Re: Cigars for Groomsmen

This line of cigars are very popular if you know of the Illusione line of cigars. They are very good and for the price you just aren't going to beat it. Since the Groomsmen are not afficionados this is a cigar that they will enjoy and may even get them on the road to Cigardom! Cuchillos Cabanos,,,,,try em.

I'm in the same boat as you and Congratulations. I'm getting married at the end of September. I'm getting my groomsmen a Cigar Flask that holds one cigar and 4 ounces. I plan on filling them with Makers Mark and throwing in two Makers Mark cigars as well a inexpensive cutter.

Re: Cigars for Groomsmen

The ASHTON VSG #1 Belicoso is a great cigar for 'non-experts'

So are the Rocky's mentioned and a few others.

Padron 1964's? It's an amazing smoke, but I think a bit overkill for someone who maybe doesnt have the experience to truly appreciate its greatness. Still, if you dont mind the cost, you wont be disappointed by a 1964. Ever.

Re: Cigars for Groomsmen

Many good suggestions here - You couldn't go wrong with any of them.

If it was me, I'd probably go with Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real. They're mild but not bland, have good construction, and are a brand your groomsmen will recognize. Plus they won't cost you an arm and leg.

Congrats!!

What have you smoked before? And what was your impression of them?

If you liked what you had before, Im sure someone here with more experience than me (probably most people here ) could recommend some similar sticks.

I agree, the R&J Reserva Real is one of my favorites right now and I'm a pretty new smoker! I don't think you can go wrong with that choice.

Welcome and congrats on the wedding! I wish you both a happy and fullfilling life together!
