Re: Shipping Questions

Next time you make an online cigar order, keep a bit of the packaging. I figure if they ships hundreds of cigars every day, they probably are doing things right. Regarding boxes, you can get them free all over the place or modify larger boxes to get the size you want. No need to pay exhorbitant USPS/UPS/Fedex box prices.

Re: Shipping Questions

If your sending 5-7 cigars you can use the smallest priority flat rate boxes. They are the size of a video tape. $4.95. I ordered some off the website. I think they come in bundles of 15, free. Post office delivers them free. The next size up flat rate is much bigger. $11. Depending on where its going, it may be cheaper to use a regular box and pay by weight. Cigars don't weight much.

Re: Shipping Questions

Yeah, don't pay for boxes, and keep the shipping materials you get. I have a bag of peanuts/bubblewrap in a closet. IIRC you have to create an account to get the free boxes on the USPS website, which you should have to begin with (shipping is cheaper if you use click'n'ship).

Re: Shipping Questions

Come on guys. If you want to ship USPS but not flat rate priority and don't have a box. Get a free priority box, turn it inside out, glue it on the one side, then tape that side. The glue will dry while the tape holds it. Wamm like new a plain brown box.

That might work, but I wouldn't count on it. I tried to use one of the flat rate boxes that I wrapped in brown paper, so I could ship it first class. The woman at the counter looked at it, wrapped up mind you, and asked "Is that a flat rate box? You're required to send those priority." So you might get away with it, but those post office workers know their stuff.

That is awesome. Wish our local postal workers were that sharp.

Re: Shipping Questions

I always use the U.S.P.S. to ship packages. If shipping priority mail, the boxes are FREE. As far as packing material goes, I've never bought packing material - EVER. Cigar shops get a ton of bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and air bags in all the time. Ask them to save them for you. Also, you can use newspaper.
