I have been smoking cigars for a few months now and I have been sticking to mild cigars. After how long should I move on to medium or full bodied cigars? Is it possible for a new cigar smoker to even venture straight to medium-full?

Re: Cigar Strength

You are not going to know until you try. I kind of started with fuller cigars and never really had many mild ones. Give it a shot.

I started out on Mediums and before a couple months I was onto full bodies. Now I ventrue between medium and fulls but it has a lot to do with the flavor profile for me as well as the body. I can take a medium bodied smoke that is full flavor and enjoy it just as much as a full on gar. I never have really like milds cuz they feel like I'm sucking on air. Just my thoughts though, you may be different. Hope this helps.

Re: Cigar Strength

I say, just experiment. I'm new too smoking and I'll try anything once. You'll find out that a specified strength is just a guide line, what's strong for others may not be for you. Just enjoy yourself.

Re: Cigar Strength

Thanks for the help. I have had some medium-fulls that I have been afraid to try out fearing that I would be wasting them. I will now venture into the unknown.

Re: Cigar Strength

Just keep something with sugar handy (soft drink, chocolate, etc) and you will be fine. If you start feeling the effects of nicotine then have some of the sugar. Sugar helps counteract nicotine.

Re: Cigar Strength

I also feel wary of a full stick . I heard Cigar Dave on the radio last weekend and he said somebody gave him a new Gurkha ( Evil , I think was the name ) and this guy told him not to smoke it on an empty stomach . My soul , what would happen to a mild to medium smoker if they got hold of one of them monsters ?

Re: Cigar Strength

About 12 years ago i noticed a cigar store down the road from my home. I went in and thought it smelled great, i bought a magazine and some sort of cigar or another, that months i went in every week and bought a few cigars, i would set at home play my guitar and puff on my new gar. Well then one day i asked the guy behind the counter if there was anything new he had tried out that was a good smoke, please forgive me its been a long time ago so i cant think of the name,, but it was about black in color. any way being young and new i had no idea about the diffrent strengths etc, i was setting there smoking it thinking wow i feel ,, really really good,,, then that quickly turned into the room spinning and me feeling not very well at all,,, i did not even attempt to smoke a cigar again till 6 months ago. I am so glad i got back into smoking them and actually doing reserch and with the help of sites like these i am learning tons. Sadly i have been chewing tobbaco for about 10 years now and at one point was up to 2 cans a day,, the good thing about that is i can smoke about any cigar there is and not get sick to my stomach, or dizzy the bad thing is i probably bought my self future mouth cancer,,,,,, anyway i know that that strong cigar that i smoked years ago turned me off of ther for a long time,,lol
