Calibrating a hygrometer with PG gel stuff?

So I was at the local B&M picking stuff up for my first humi, and as I arrive back home to calibrate my new hygro, i find that not only do I not have any distilled water, but perversely enough I have no salt either. I do, however, have this cool Madelaine's Crystal Clear hydrating gel that's supposed to keep the rH at 70%. Would it be feasible to just use this gel as a baseline instead of going all the way back to the store for some salty water?

I would just wait and get the salt and the distilled water. That will be right on 75% where your crystal clear hydrating gel may not be spot on 70 depending on your ambient temp. A little patience will pay dividends in the end. If you're not using beads you will want to know where your humidity is at so you can catch the fluctuations.

Only use something reliable, like distilled water and salt. For calibrating there are no shortcuts. But no real reason to be in a hurry either. Next time you are at the grocery store buy some salt and distilled water. a week or two 3-5% off is not such a bad thing.
