Do you actually date the cigar somehow or a log book of some sorts. Do also keep track of cigars you like or how a certain cigars is.

Re: Cigar Dating

I've been wondering that myself. Maybe write it on the cellophane with a sharpie? Of course, not everyone keeps their cigars in the wrapper.

Re: Cigar Dating

Usually with cuban it's on the box stamped on the bottom. Other boxes I write when I bought them.

For singles you can buy blank bands which you can write the box code/date on if you know it or the date you recieved it.

Very handly items as you can also note brand size model who gave it to you was it a gift or bomb or trade or anything else on these blank bands.

Check cigarmony or heartfelt if your looking to buy.

Also some people write the date right on the cap of the cigar with a fine point sharpie.

Re: Cigar Dating

I keep a small notebook and record the date they went into my humidor. If it was purchased as a single I'll make a note after I smoked it as to whether it was something I should buy again. Sometimes, instead of staring into my humidor, I'll go to the notebook first to decide what's ready to be smoked.

But say you have 10 of the same cigar but they were bought or received at different times you would need a way to tell them apart. That is where some kind of marking helps. The main reason I mark singles is because I will never give away a cigar that was gifted to me. So if I have 5 of a certain cigar and someone gives me the same cigar I like to know which one I was given.

Re: Cigar Dating

I keep a spreadsheet with the date of purchase and other info for the cigars in my cabinet.

I won't say my method is fool proof but in my case it beats the hell out of relying on memory, and I just don't like the idea of possibly contaminating my cigars with ink. It isn't a perfect solution but it helps.

No problem bro. Just pointing out the reason I mark singles and using your post as an example.

If I had to rely on my memory I would probably forget where my coolers were, much less what cigar is what!

Re: Cigar Dating

I generally start out by introducing myself and making small talk, offering a few tasteful compliments. If things are going well, I ask them if perhaps they'd like to get together for lunch sometime. If lunch goes well, I suggest dinner. If dinner goes well, I ask them if they'd like to come up and see my sketches.

Seriously though, do you guys list month and year, or just year?

Re: Cigar Dating

I use blank bands on the nekkid ones, and stickers on the cello ones. Here is where I bought the blank bands. http://www.puff.com/forums/vb/retail...group-buy.html

Re: Cigar Dating

I label the boxes with a sticker with date of arrival. I do not prefer aged cigars so my intent is not let them get over a year old. Singles I don't bother, as they will be gone in a few weeks anyway.

Re: Cigar Dating

I have an exceptional memory, so I have no trouble remembering within a few weeks my purchase/trade/origination dates. I bring up a picture in my mind of the shipping manifests.
