Another Newb Question
I was wondering how much the different cigar shapes affect the taste?
If I hate a Churchill, might I still like it in a Robusto? Not sure I understand the different shapes, other than the obvious visual and measurement differences. Thanks, Ray |

Re: Another Newb Question
Usually a different shape of a particular brand/line will have a simular but different blend due to the percentages of wrapper/binder/filler due to its relative size.
Take the cuban monticristo line all are relatively the same blend in differnt sizes/percentages. As such they are blended to have a simular flavours and they are simular but they can't be exactly the same as a thiner cigar will have a larger percentage of wrapper vs. a robusto. The size will vary in wrapper/binder/filler percentages but it will also vary in smoke volume due to the ring gauge and as such the opening that is allowable in the cigar. For example you might really have to 'sip' a cohiba lancero as it is thin cigar but you might really 'suck back' a cohiba robusto due to its relatively larger ring gauge and your ability to draw more smoke through it. This change in the speed and smoking style will/might change flavours. Also the the amount of smoke you get will also change the flavour which can be linked to size/shape. Howwever if you dislike a churchill cigar the robusto cigar in the same line/blend it probably will not wow you but there are exceptions as ther varibles mentioned above will vary smoking tastes/results. So the long and the short is yes and no ![]() But my advice is try them all and don't judge a smoke before you smoked it. And PS don't take my word for it get a petite corona and a churchill of the same blend and smoke them at the same time and see if you can tell the difference in taste.

Re: Another Newb Question
If a cigar sucks in a churchill size its gonna suck in a robusto size. But whether it sucks or not is completely up to your tastes. the only differences I'd say is that a bigger size will have more oomphh to it.

Re: Another Newb Question
Interesting question. For some reason some cigars are better in churchill - and others are better in a petit corona. I think this would vary from one blend to the next because the wrapper to binder and filler ratio would change with the size of the cigar. So - the wrapper taste may be more noticable in a small cigar - and filler may be more noticable in a large cigar.
So if you like the wrapper better smoke small - if you like the filler smoke larger |
