so what exactly is/should be Corojo?
I think I've smoked only one corojo in my short time smoking cigars-a Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte. The best way for me to describe it I think is "beefy." And quite woody/earthy.
Is this what a corojo wrapper is supposed to taste like? I'm a fan of both other Sancho Panza lines, but this one was...something else. |

Re: so what exactly is/should be Corojo?
Usually Corojo is considered to be synonamous with spicy. Of course with tastes being so subjective what is one mans spice may be anothers "beefy".

I tend to agree here. I knew quite how to describe it but "Autumn" is great.

Re: so what exactly is/should be Corojo?
Corojo is a Cuban seed tobacco normally grown in Nicaragua but can be grown in other places.
Its a med to darker brown (not Maduro dark) leaf. To me it brings some spice and or pepper, cocoa, and rich tobacco flavor. Depending on the cigar I also can pick up an earthy and nutty flavor. It is my favorite wrapper and a couple great Corojo smokes include the Padilla Miami, and 32, the Illusione 88, and many Pepin blended sticks. The Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte's wrapper is Cuban seed grown is Honduran. So it could very well be Corojo but I am not 100% sure.

Re: so what exactly is/should be Corojo?
When I think Corojo, I think complex/rounded flavors with mild spice. Generally speaking, they're not near a spicy as Ligero, and don't pack near as much punch.
Corojo is just name for the genetic strain. The plants can be grown in varying environments and can be fermented for any length of time, which really changes the flavor profile. My favorite Corojo is the JFR double corona. Least favorite is the Vibe Corojo. |

Re: so what exactly is/should be Corojo?
Corojo is the classic spice/pepper wrapper. Smoke some of the first line DPG stuff for an example of what good Corojo is about.
