Cigars in Italy

Hi, I'll be going to Italy soon and was wondering if any one out there knows where to get and smoke cigars there? I'm going to Rome, Venice and Florence.

Where can I buy them? What are the smoking laws?

Can I bring a lighter or Guillotine cutter on the plane ??
Can I pack it in the luggage? would it be safe there?

May want to get some CCs over there

TIA

Arrivederci! (soon)

I've always wanted to go to Sicilly... My grandparents and father are landed immigrants back when my dad was 10... He's 55 now and we've never been back! Keep us updated on what it's like!

According to TSA rules lighters should not be checked, unless they are stored in a TSA approved case;

Amazon.com: zippo air case

Rock on Sir!

Re: Cigars in Italy

I was curious myself so I headed over to the TSA site:

More detailed info here: clicky

With the inconsistency at airports these days it seems like the best approach is to take a lighter if you can afford to have it confiscated.

Re: Cigars in Italy

My favorite cigar store in the world is in Rome. It is called Fincato. Located in the Piazza Colonna Rome Phone# (39-06) 678-5508 and the address is:

Via della Colonna Antonina, 34 00186 Roma, (Lazio), Italy
066 785508‎

The treat you like gold if you seem to know what you are talking about, and the prices are very good. They hand pick your cigars for you. Ask them for Bolivar Belicoso Fina.

Venice and Florence, at most tobacci, you can find cigars and postage stamps. That is what they sell.

Can I bring a lighter or Guillotine cutter on the plane ?? You can bring a guillotine and a disposable lighter. Pack the good stuff to be safe. I travel a lot.

Can I pack it in the luggage? would it be safe there? They are safe in your luggage.

Re: Cigars in Italy

Good observations here from the boys. When we went to Rome I ensured that my good lighters and cutter were put in a secure place in my checked luggage. I hand carried my cigars aboard the plane and had not issues with TSA on this side or the other. One of the most memorable places I have ever had the pleasure to smoke cigars was in Italy,,,the outside locations in the plazas where the Trevi Fountain is located, outside the Coliseum and nearby the Spanish Steps was some amazing places. Hope you enjoy your trip there.

Thanks again Andy! Went there and here it is...
Got the fina - good smoke also got the fina limitada 2007 (I think) enjoyed this even more. Very nice place, and fun going upstairs to the Cuban seller! Of course there are so many fine cafe's there to enjoy your cigar with - outside of course.

Re: Cigars in Italy

Have fun on your trip, I have been to all those places, and the only piece of advice I have is to avoid buying cigars from "tobacci shops" someone mentioned earlier that you can buy cigars along with postage stamps, its completely true. Its pretty much like buying cigars from a newsstand. Also Cuban cigar counterfeits are common, so buy from a reputable dealer. Tobacci shops are everywhere, but they take terrible care of their sticks. I had to throw away a Cohiba siglo VI because it was so wet you couldn't draw without hurting your neck. Also, be prepared to spend some cash! Have those euros ready, because if you thought your local B&M was pricey, wait until you hit Rome!
