Storage Case

I saw something interesting the other day while I was waiting in the city.

I saw a gentleman smoking a cigar about halfway and I guess he had to go somewhere and he popped out a case and instead of putting the cigar out he put it into this case

sort of looked like this

Xikar Envoy Leather Single Cigar Case | Famous Smoke Shop

but hard to tell for sure.

Why would he not just put it out in the ashtray that was in front of him?

Does this mean he is going to smoke it later?

I was under the impression once you start a cigar you have to finish it then or it will taste bad later.

Is there another way around this? Because sometimes I cannot finish them in time and would love to save it later.

There is something out there called the Cigar Saver (or Savior, not sure) that supposedly you can put a lit cigar in to "save" for later. It's a single tube that looks like a regular cigar holder. I have no idea if they work but I can't image that they'd work very well. Smoke has a way of perminating the rest of the tabacco and ruins the original flavors.

Anyone else out there tried them?Cigar Aficionado | Web Features | Saving Cigars With the Cigar Savor

Re: Storage Case

I know there is a tube type thing called a Cigar Savor whee it is supposed to save a partially smoked cigar. Personally I would not recommend putting a cigar out and then relighting it later but some people do.

I see piperdown beat me to it.

Re: Storage Case

Couldn't imagine putting a half-smoked cigar in that thing ... Not only would the cigar be nasty, but the case would be ruined with stale smoke smell.

I'll relight if it's been in an ashtray for maybe up to an hour but after that I chuck it. Some have had success cutting off the burnt end and relighting later, but I don't know, seems it would still be filled with stale smoke.

Re: Storage Case

A few years back there was an item that every cigar retailer was selling that was supposed to keep a cigar fresh after extinguishing it. I think it was called the cigar saver or something like that. Haven't seen them around for years now and I take that as a sign as to how well they really worked. If I have to put a cigar down and can't relight it within 30 minutes I toss it.

Re: Storage Case

Theroeticly, once put out the taste would change utterly if tried to smoke it again. maybe if you just snuffed the tip in a snuffer , blew through the stick to get out any excess smoke, then it would only really taste like crap later as opposed to defiantly taste like crap. I could be very wrong in this as I'm new. But storing a half smoked stick just don't make sense.

Re: Storage Case

I see them on ebay all of the time:
Cigar Snuffer Saver Relight or Don't Waste That Stogie - eBay (item 290347458412 end time Sep-13-09 19:05:37 PDT)

I think the old smoke would permeate the cigar IMHO

Re: Storage Case

Thanks for all the info...it is too bad it would not work..

there are times I really want a cigar but know I have no time to finish it...and in a dilemma..do i smoke just have of it.and then throw th rest out ...or smoke it really fast..to feel like i did not waste it...

I know they have the small cigarellos, but from what i understand they are not the same thing, though I have not tried them yet maybe I will look into them

Re: Storage Case

There are some really good petit coronas out there. Usually a 25-45 minute smoke depending on the cigar and how fast you puff. And if you're into CCs, some of the best around are Petit Coronas, for reasonable $$$.

What is a CC?

So far I guess the Petit Corona I had would be the Rocky Patel Vintage but they are expensive, to me if if they are smaller I should spend less money, I also had a Padron 1964 Maduro but that was $12 but that was heaven

maybe I should start another thread on what are some of the best petit coronas

Re: Storage Case

there are plenty of small cigars sold in tins...many are actually long filler. Quick 10 min smokes, and no need to keep a stale cigar on you.
