At my job, we order, and ship a lot of stuff. We may order something that weights about 2lb and have it shipped via UPS ground on our account, and it cost $8.00. Say the company we are ordering from does a large shipping volume daily, then we ask them to bill us for the shipping, and we pay anywhere from $4.00 to $6.00 for the same item. We may order that item from an individual, and their shipping price is about $12 because they don't have daily pickup, plus UPS is picking up from a residential area.
Unless the suppliers are shipping with USPS who offers flat rate shipping, their shipping price will be relational to their shipping volume, shipping account age, and most of all, the suppliers relationship with the courier.

Regards

Byrke
Nice, but a hygrometer doesnt even weight 6oz!
I used to do a ton of shipping with UPS at my business, but these guys were shipping USPS!

You should visit BestCigarPrices.com. Not as big and as well known as some of the other places, they have great prices and really go out of their way to give good customer service. They were recommended to me and I was very sceptical, but glad to say it was a good recommendation.

I mostly use Cigarbid.com but if I can't snag a box of what I'm looking for there, I go to JR Cigars.com as their prices are fair.

Re: Where does everyone buy Online?

I've had a recent horrid experience with a company that shal remain nameless. Let's say it rhymes with Compson Tigar Company...

Purchased a nice humidor, digital hygro and humidifer kit, three sampler packs, a nice Xicar cutter, and a twin torch lighter duo pack.

Everything showed as available except the humidifier kit.

I received the first humidor damaged. Called for a replacement, and it was NLA. So I had to get an alternate humidor, that wasn't as nice as the one I had selected, but still decent.

I receive one sampler pack a week later.

Still none of the other items.

I finally receive notification that the hygro/humidifier kit had shipped as well as one more of the sampler packs. Still no cutter.

The next package arrives, with one more of the sampler packs, the lighters, but instead of the hygro/humidifier kit, there is a note stating it is no longer available (even though the online tracking system showed it had shipped).

So now I have my humi, two of the three packs of cigars, no cutter, and no hygro/humidifier.

I send a customer service complaint online and receive an reply that the cutter I had ordered was on back order (for the color I purchased), but an alternative color choice was available. I replied that it would be acceptable as a replacement. 10 days later, no cutter.

I received the final cigar pack a few days later.

I finally called and canceled the cutter order and asked to be removed from the mailing list.

I was just really unhappy with the lack of communication, the misleading communication, the failure for customer service to respond to and remedy issues in a timely manner. And I'm in the same state (only a 100 miles) from the warehouse.

I've since ordered from Cigar.com and Famous and everything has gone well.

Re: Where does everyone buy Online?

I like Famous, but it takes seven days for my order to arrive (free UPS Ground). The cigars seem to need extra recovery time in the humidor before they're smokeable. When I order from Cigar.com, they're here in three days (free USPS) and packed with a water pillow. They still need a rest in the humidor, but they recover sooner.

I haven't ordered from anyone else, and for sure won't order from that "Compson Tigar" place.

Re: Where does everyone buy Online?

I order from famous one day by 3 o clock and its on my doorstep the very next day, without fail.

Two days from JR, and never ever a problem I like to buy boxes at this stage and I do like the jr weekly dutch auctions. You just have to be patient on what you are looking for, and be smart on your bidding and you can get some excellent boxes of cigars at a very reasonable price.
Of course they dont carry all the brands, but they do carry some good stuff, and I am fond of their jr ultimate cigar. the very dark maduro one to me iis a work of art and I have a 50 count humii filled with toros just laying down and getting better every day.
I used to enjoy cbid, and the convienance of the weekly deliveries on the bids. But something happened and I do not buy from them anymore. Its all good now.

I'm kinda scared to try Cbid. I have heard it makes cigars addictive.

Re: Where does everyone buy Online?

CI and Cbid mostly. I have used cigarplace.biz and have been very happy. Get on their e-mailing list and you'll get coupons and free shipping. The only other one is seriouscigars.com. Ordered a couple of times with no issues.

I watch cigarmonster on a daily basis and never see anything other than Famous brands or stuff I have never heard of. Right now on the monster "Tony Borhani 8 Robusto Cigars"... not sure who Tony is.

Re: Where does everyone buy Online?

Online, I have bought from several but mostly JR's and Cigar.com. All my experiences with both have been good.
I mainly by from my local B&M, Nash cigar, and from the B&M version of JR's, about 30 miles south of me. They have the same prices as online, but good service and a very nice place to sit and enjoy a cigar.

Working on an Ovlia Serie V from Nash at the moment....

Atlantic Cigar, Cigars International and Cigar.com. For those who haven't tried it - check out Atlantic - good prices and service. They are always willing to make up a sampler or 5 pack.
