So were do I go (From ALaska) for a Cigar holiday?
Looking to go somewhere this winter, wife & myself. Would be nice to try a Cuban that I could afford. Nothing to fancy for a place but I have nowhere in mind. Suggestions? 5-6 days from AK to ???????

Re: So were do I go (From ALaska) for a Cigar holiday?
Not sure what else you're looking for in a trip, or what you have to spend. Canada's close, but taxes are brutal on tobacco. Scotland is an awesome trip, but also not cheap, and you'd have a hard time taking it all in in the amount of time you're talking about. Takes about 36 hours just to get there from here. Mexico is nice and warm, but you would need to do your homework to avoid buying counterfeits. A cruise to the Caribbean, maybe, but I would be sure to read some of the other threads on here about cruising, and check with the cruise line about their policies and facilities for onboard cigar smoking, as they're all apparently different, and subject to change on a whim.
All in all, for a short trip to somewhere that has CC's and would get you away from the Alaskan Winter, on a reasonable budget, Vancouver BC, maybe? I've never been there, but now that I think about it it's starting to seem like a pretty good idea.

Cabo San Lucas can be kind of nice for a few days. You can go fishing, diving or snorkeling. If you like to party you can do a lot of that there. Rent a car and you can drive up the peninsula a little ways, it's kind of cool having the desert and ocean on the same vacation.
On the other side of Mexico, is Playa Del Carmen. Very popular. |

Hell man, go to Cuba. Fly yourself into Canada and fly from Canada to Cuba. You would amazed how many Americans travel there every year. And Cuba is very very cheap. Nothing fancy as far as food and accommodations there but you could smoke great sticks every day! Me and my wife are planning another trip back there this winter but this time no beach for us. All our time will be spent in Havana and in the Pinar L Rio region.

Aruba is nice. Very small island but has some good sticks (I think only one store has the real deal). You can also gamble, kite board, fish, snorkel, etc. Food is really expensive though...
Mexico would be nice as well and probably cheaper than Aruba. |

I would stick with Mexico or Cuba. If you are concerned with where to buy legitimate sticks in Mexico you can e-mail the Habanos distributer. I have in the past and they were helpful.
