Black gummy filler

I had an odd cigar experience just now and figured I'd run it by the pros since a search failed me. I had a 5 Vegas Gold Nugget a few minutes ago and it had a dense black patch in the filler that apparently ran from end to end since I could see it on both ends after the cut. It was as if something sticky had run through the cigar. It didn't fill the entire cigar width; I'd say about roughly half (should have taken a picture).

It was noticeable before I even saw it as the cut had that slightly mushy feel as though the cigar was too humid or the cutter wasn't sharp enough, although the box humidity is good and the burn was even so I doubt that was it. I haven't had this issue with any of the other cigars in that box so far and I just checked the ends of a few in the humidor but found no sign, so it appears to be a fluke. It added a taste of burnt bitterness that was very out of place in a 5 Vegas Gold, bad enough that I tossed the stick before the first third was gone.

Just wondering if this was something that anyone was familiar with and if it could be treated as it's a bummer having to toss one of my favorite stogies.

Re: Black gummy filler

Sounds like it got too wet and the center completely composted. Kinda like 2 month old lettuce you find in the back of the fridge. But I would have expected to see mold as well.

A quality cigar should not have any noticeable color variations when looking at the foot. You should have returned it instead of smoking it.

Something must have happened to it. I don't see how it could have passed Quality Control if it looked like that at the factory. They'll pull cigars for very minor flaws.

Yeah, I'm a nub. I'm just glad that the rest of the box looks alright, as mold was the first thing that I thought when I saw it. If I ever get one like that again I'll send it back.
