What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
Getting some smokes that are fine but getting a running issue here & there. Do I look for different wraps or can I fix this on the fly?

ROFL
On a more serious note i just put the side that is running away on the top, and or put it down with the run on top being that the bottom of the stick burns faster, though sometimes nothing helps. Last edited by loft306; 10-04-2009 at 05:32 AM.. |

Burn and correct and if that doesn't work put a bead of caulk between your cheeks until your "runs" stop.

Re: What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
I sometimes put a little spit on my finger and apply it at the "base" of the run. It seems to help....or it could be my imagination.

Re: What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
Try a mix of all the above. Turn the run to the top side, catch up the bottom with a little fire. The spit thing works too, used to do that all the time with left-handed cigarettes.
(i did say "used to") |

if you gently press the slow side, it will hit the "coals" and start to catch up. Before doing that, however, you should try the turning method.
Also, if you are outside, try to turn the slow side to the wind, as it will help it burn faster. if these fail, there is always the flame option, but IMO that tends to be tough to get right without "overheating" the cigar. |

I actually had tried the spit method, but it doesn't work as well on the larger gauge sizes as well. I will try thy advice. Pepto Bismol works as well

Re: What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
There is a very good article about this at Cigarnexus.com ... my noob status in this forum won't allow me to post a link but if you google "cigarnexus" and "burn baby burn" you'll find it.

Re: What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
Best thing you can do is let them rest a couple months. Often runs are cause by moist/dry spots in the cigar.
Sometimes it's just the sign of a cheap cigar. If they're not rolled consistently, they will always have issues, regardless of how well you treat them. And sometimes it means that you didn't light it properly or are smoking too fast. My buddy and I can smoke the same stick from the same humidor and he'll have burn issues while mine is always straight. Of course, I am that guy from time to time as well. I've noticed that a lot of people don't have burn problems until they ash. Always give a good puff or two before knocking the ash off. If you don't see a pointy/dome shaped cherry sticking out the end, then you'll probably get a run shortly. I always give it a fair chance to correct itself. You would be surprised how often they will straighten out on their own. However, if it keeps getting worse, I try to burn the outside all around at the same level, then let it sit for 30-40 seconds before drawing. That way the tobacco doesn't get overheated or charred. Much easier than trying to force a flame through ash. |

Re: What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
I agree with e-man almost all my burn issues went away when I started letting all my cigars rest at least a month before smoking. It's tough to wait but they smoke way better after they rest.

Re: What do I do about bad "Runs" during the smoke
I still get some burn issues with some cigars, even after months of resting them. I just take a torch lighter to the misbehaving area to help it catch up, but make sure I don't take the flame too close to avoid burning through the cigar.
