Are these gurkhas a purchased from JR's seconds?

(sorry if this post comes up twice ...)

I found this interesting JRCigars.com: GURKHA LEGEND - CHURCHILL BUNDLE CIGARS, From Honduras, 7.00 x 48, $99.95 (MSRP $400.00)

I checked all over and haven't seen the gurkah legend ever in 7x48. I called JRs and the woman on the phone was no help at all. She just mentioned 'that's what it says."

I ordered them and they just came in. Smoking one now and it's a really nice smoke so I'm very happy with the purchase at 4bucks/stick. The construction though seems a bit off - many soft spots and the labels are very lose. Didn't come in a box but came wrapped in a cellophane bundle.

They actually seem longer than 7'' (don't have a ruler at the moment but an online ruler seemed to indicate it's about 7.5''. I'm not a good judge of ring gauge either, but definitely not over 48..I'll check later on. In fact I think it 'might' be less. than 48.)

I'm wondering if maybe they are gurkah seconds? The blend is good though, but I really wish JR's would indicate if they were seconds or not. The woman on the phone didn't know, but I'd think they should let you know if you were buying seconds.

Am I maybe smoking an old batch of legends that they used to actually run in that size?

Usually, seconds don't get banded, and they would be the same size as the others...just pulled for imperfections.

Gurkha is a boutique brand, so they may not make enough of this vitola to distribute beyond one or two vendors. I've never seen one that size.

But have you seen the 48 ring gauge which mine were? They're pretty good so I'll probably buy them again (assuming they're still offered at that price.) Just found it odd that I've never seen 7x48 in Gurkah Legend.

Yes gurkha makes a 7.50 x50 legends churchill. I know for sure they make it in natural, not sure about maduro.

Thats pretty much spot on to what you have.
Jerry

by the way the msrp is something like 19 bucks.
