Sorry, it isn't.
It's crystalline and sparkly.

Re: MOLD!!!

If it is fuzzy I can assure you it is not plume. It usually takes a few years for plume to develop so I doubt an online retailer would have cigars of that age sitting around. As long as the mold is not in the foot of the cigar you cn wipe them down and smoke as usual.

Re: MOLD!!!

Fuzz most definitely means mold, not plume.

^^^^^
Unless it is COVERED in mold, you won't be able to tell the difference. I've smoked cigars with mold before that were still excellent. Do wipe it off though, just for the mental aspect if nothing else.

Re: MOLD!!!

Look a bit closer. I'm not gonna' argue how you describe cigars...but I currently have a couple dozen plumed out sticks...and they are furry...and they're fabulous. They range in age from very old...pre-milder blend VSG's (which Ashton will never admit to)...to newer Romeo Limitada tubos. Plume starts out as crystals...but blossoms (or blooms...alternate description) into what I've previously described. There really is no argument here.

Please post a pic of this furry plume you speak of. I have seen a lot of plume, and it has NEVER been hairy. However, I fully admit that I do not have much experience with cigars more than a few years old, so I would love to see some good pics.

I bought some cigars from a B&M last year that had plume on them. A very rare find. It wasn't noticeable until I turned the cigar in the light. Then I saw glittery sparkles everywhere. I put them in the humidor in an untouched shelf and have noticed MORE sparkles have developed, but no hairs that you speak of.

If if grows in concentrated areas, rather that being spread all over the stick, then it's definitely mold. If it showed up within a week, it isn't plume.

I let them rest in the coolerdor for about a week and smoked one but didn't notice any mold. I took another one out to smoke two days ago and that's when I noticed the white spots of mold. These spots are not glittery. They are slightly hairy (I'll try to take a pic tonight). One of them even had the mold all over the base. Right now, they're all in a separate ziplock bag with humidity packs and are far away from my coolerdor.

Probably too late to send them back as I read you can just wipe off the mold and smoke it. I found a few that didn't seem to have any mold on it so I smoked another one. Funny thing is this tastes bad after the first few puffs. I smoked a Serie G rlbusto size before and fell in love with it. With these, they seem to taste like sh*t. Maybe it's the small size or something but I always thought they'd taste the same as their bigger brothers...

Anyway, I'll try to get some pics tonight.

MOST online retailers will give you an exchange if you're not happy for any reason. In fact, Thompson gives you 30 days and wants you so smoke TWO cigars before making a return for full credit.

Thompson's isn't the most respected company in these forums, but if they're willing to take the return, then I would bet that most are also willing.

Who did you buy from?

Re: MOLD!!!

Sorry, folks. I tried taking pics last night but the mold didn't show up using my crappy digi cam. I'll try to borrow my uncle's SLR and see if that helps.

Re: MOLD!!!

My last comment on this topic. I am currently staring at a Romeo Limitada (straight from the tube) that is white and furry in several spots. It's not MOLD. It's plume! And it's FURRY...and soon to be delicious!

All I can say is Enjoy. I personally would not smoke a cigar with anything furry on it but that is just me.
