Arturo Fuente Candelas

I remember being a youngster and my father driving our family each sunday to my mothers father to visit in queens.
We would always stop at a cigar store where my father would give me money, and I would get a box of cigars for my grandfather. They were machine rolled white owls, but were green like the candelas.

It brings back a memory. I see them in a catalogue and was wondering if anyone has ever tried them.?

I cant seem to find where they are being reviewed on the cigar review part of this forum.

Hell, I would buy a box of them, just for nostalgia. My grandfather was a strong proud man, and a union organizer in the early days of unions. His passion was smokeing those white owls, watching the yankees on t.v., and to get a store bought shave when he could afford it.

Much regards Jerry

I've tried them... They're very mild & slightly sweet.

They're not bad if your looking for a mild smoke, or a change of pace.

Re: Arturo Fuente Candelas

I've had experience with machine-rolled candelas, namely Dutch Masters... We all know what they were used for. But I've had some unadulterated ones. They're pretty good. Had a slightly grassy taste to em, and the honey ones were tasty.

The candelas I've tried all had a grassy taste. Never tried the AF candelas though.

The regular line ones are about as mild and tasteless as they get, but the 8-5-8 Candela is delicious.

I'm a huge 8-5-8 fan, so I'll have to check these out, Snake! Thanks for the heads up.

I love the 8-5-8 Candela as a mild, morning smoke.

Like the rest are saying,,,a very mild cigar and good for morning to mid morning hours where it won't blow your taste buds out of your mouth.

Re: Arturo Fuente Candelas

You don't say what years you are talking about. When CCs were available here, the candela was the most sold wrapper, as Americans preferred a milder cigar. Also, many of the machine mades used at least partial CC filler in their cigars back then. The cigars our fathers and grandfathers smoked are not necessarily the cigars we can get now

Yeeaaaaah... I think Jerry's talking about current candela wrappers... I'm pretty sure he was asking (if he were to buy some) what would be a good candela to have. Seems like the AF 8-5-8 is a popular one! I can barely find regular 8-5-8's in my B&M's... always sold out... I think you can buy a single on CI or something to try.
