Yep,,,as far as I know it's the only "true cat's eye cut" out there which distinguishes it from all of the other V Cuts. The other cutters you find are a cheap imitation and don't work worth shyte. Boston Cigar Cutter Company Home Page

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Just a thought. When you do your cut, do you bring the blades to toucing the cigar and then do a snap. that I believe is the proper way. If you do not have the blades touching the cigar and you do the snap, you have a good chance of damaging to some extent the head.
Much regards Jerry. P.S. 170 dollars for a cutter? Gary can you adopt me. I always wanted a rich daddy. LOL J |

Hey, Santa! While we are waiting on Isaac to graduate, I graduated in 1983 and 1989 (grad school). I'm waiting on a divorce to finalize so that probably counts as some kinda graduation!! Just kidding, Gary. I really enjoy your posts on these cutter issues. Isaac, I run into the same problem. For whatever reason, it only seems to be more prevalent with the more expensive double-blade cutters as I notice it more with my Xikar than my cheap ones. Go figure. The cheaper ones seem to tear more to me than anything else. Especially with dull blades. |

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Do you eat the tobacco bits? I'm just wondering, because I've been doing this too, but I'm afraid any indoor smoking with fellow BOTL's or B&M owners would probably be mad if I were spitting on their floors... rofl

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Not trying to be smart, but have been smoking cigars almost 40 years, and have never experienced dust on the cut. Maybe I am just lucky.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
I have experienced the dust thing when snipping one that was not properly humidified long enough or I got too impatient and just couldn't wait. I searched all the shop I would go too for a good "cheap" cutter as I want to save my $ for the inventory also. Those cats eye cutters are the nutts though! I used to go to a shop that had one one the counter that I liked to use before leaving.
I finally found one that I have had for some time now that is still performing pretty good. It is a softer plastic double blade cutter that has the "rounded ends" on the finger grips. I had another one that had the square ends and it was a POS like the single blade ones. I think I paid like 8 bucks if memory serves me correct for the good one. One thing I noticed about this one was when I pulled it apart to clean it (you have to pull hard and be careful as the blades can go flying) the blades are laser engraved with the words " Stainless Steel Germany" on them. I have had SS from other parts of the world that have rusted in the dishwasher! Go figure.....never before in my 50+ years have I experienced rusting SS until those steak knifes were gifted to us. Guess what country they came from! ...(back to subject) This one seems to stay sharper longer and each time I clean it I put a new razor edge on them. I have found oven cleaner to work the best for making them brand new again....but again you have to be very careful when you use it as it is some potent stuff. Some latex gloves...spray it on....wait 5 mins and wash off and sharpen....reassemble.....cut and smoke your stick of choice. Same as others have mentioned.....bring the blades closed to the tobacco and give it a hard snip but don't jerk it while snipping. This is how I've had most of my good cutting luck. Keep on puffin......... |

It is the square ended cutter not the rounded end cutter that is the better one. |
