Cut Cap = dust?
Hey guys, I was wondering if, when you cut the cap on the cigar, if you get a mouthful of dust on the prelight draw? It seems to always happen to me. It might be my 5 dollar cutter.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Easy solution. Blow it off after you cut it.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Yeaaah, that sometimes works lol. I've tried blowing thru the other end of it, too. Still happens though.

Oh then it must not just be on the surface sometimes. I don't have any other ideas for ya man, I've never had that happen... Maybe it is your cutter. Anyways, good luck on fixin this problem.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Haha thanks John! It must be the cutter; when I was still using a razorblade to clip my smokes this rarely ever happened.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
When will I learn! I also bought a cheapo 5 dollar v-cutter... It's a P.O.S. lol! Every time I cut with that I swear the draw gets too tight because it's pressing the tobacco together lol. I guess I'll have to look into a Palio! Thanks guys!

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Think about the dynamics of cigar manufacture, too, not just the cut. They take a raw agricultural product that's been curing in barns and roll it up and let it dry out a bit. Then this rolled product sits in another storehouse for years in many cases. This, to me, would produce some dusty conditions at some point along the way, at least to my logic. Try it with a punch cutter and blow on the head before the pre-light draw. I do this almost always and seldomly do I get the dust issue anymore.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
I was going to suggest you switch to a wolf catseye v cutter, but I am not going to, because if we wait for a while Cigary(Gary) will chime in on this. He loves his wolf v cutter. ROTFL

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Good points you two! I figured since the stuff is dryed leaves, if I crumple a dried leaf in my hand it turns to dust too. I suppose cheap 5 dollar cutters will more likely "crumple" than slice the cap.
Gary's the reason I bought a V-Cutter; well, him and the B&M owner that gave me my first V-Cut in an 8-5-8. I just wanted to try a few sticks with it, so I figured 5 bucks to try out a few V's and I'd be able to find if spending the loot on a nicer "little guy" (I think is actually the cat's-eye cutter that Gary uses, much much more expensive than a Wolf). In either event, at this point I'd rather spend my hard-to-come-by cash on inventory. The dust really doesn't bother me that much, it's mostly just a few seconds of annoyance before the bliss. |

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Yeah your older or dull cutter is probably crushing the tobacco and causing that flavor.

Re: Cut Cap = dust?
Hey Isaac, back to the original question, it happens to me all the time regardless of what I cut the cap with. I've gotten into the habit of licking real quick before I test the draw. Rather have the dust on the tongue than tickling the back of the throat.
*Man this is a hard post to make without making myself sound like a pole smoker* let the jokes begin.
