Wisdom tooth extraction..

So I woke up and my wisdom tooth was ON FIRE today and I rushed to see my dentist who x-rayed it and told me I had to have it out immediately. He then numbed me up and pulled it out with pliers. My mouth hurts and Im in pain but all I keep thinking about is wanting a nice cigar. My dentist told me do not smoke for the first 24 hours or so but Im thinking about doing it anyway.

Any thoughts?

Re: Wisdom tooth extraction..

That sucks man. I had my wisdom teeth out a couple years ago, and it was a week or more of hell. There's nothing quite like having a gaping hole in your mouth for a few weeks.

As for smoking, I'd wait as long as you can. The problem is not so much the smoke as it is the sucking action. That's also why you're not supposed to drink from straws, as the sucking can pull out the stitches.

Re: Wisdom tooth extraction..

Don't do it! You could get not only an infection but a dry socket as you tend to puff on a cigar. I waited for 3 days after which the cotton will be out and when you do or "if" you smoke keep a cotton ball over the socket. Might need some good whiskey to keep out infection.

You don't want a dry socket, you will regret it.

Ditto on the dry socket thing. You will regret that cigar for a long time. Now the whiskey on the other hand.

It's the truth I got it after having all four removed at the same time, Maybe if you pack it tight with cotton and wait a couple day's, Maybe the patch until then. Dry socket really hurts dude!

Yeah don't do the dry socket thing .... no good. I had all 4 of mine taken out this year, some were impacted. Not a good month to say the least.

Re: Wisdom tooth extraction..

Jon,,,make sure you take the pain medication as welll for the entire time or until the bottle is empty. You might even go thru periods where you don't feel any pain at all,,that's because the medicine is working. Usually, they will give you Vicodin every 4-6 hours,,,take them religiously for at least 3 days. I had 3 of my wisdom teeth taken out and waited til I could remove the cotton patch and no more blood. After I knew it wasn't bleeding anymore I packed the one side where only one tooth was extracted and made sure the cotton ball was pretty tight in the hole and then smoked petite size cigars because they don't take much of an effort to draw and they only last about 20-30 minutes. After I smoked it then I'd rinse with salt water after changing out the cotton ball. I've had a dry socket before and trust me,,,you'd rather take a bullet to the knee when you suck on something and you get that WOOOOOSH of pain as the sensation feels like somebody just took a craftsman drill to that hole.
