$300.00 Budget What Would You Buy?

I have a 120 count desktop humi that was my first purchase. It is about to over flow with smokes. I am in the process of a thermo electric project and would like your take on what you would stock it with. This is what I am contemplating.

1. Box of Paron 1926 #6 maduros. (Yummy)

2. Box of Hemingway Signatures and Sun Grown Cuban Belicoso's.
(This would also intale my first trip to Tampa Sweethearts which is about twenty minutes from me. Yes, I would take my digital camera and support all of your **** needs.)

3. Boxes of Carlos Torano 1916 Torpedo, Onyx Reserve No.2, Padron 2000 maduro, Fuente Double Chateau Natural. Which can be had online with delivery for right about $301.

I am leaning towards #2 but #1 is hard to pass up also. #3 doesn't look as iteresting just because I already have about 4 boxes and a bunch of singles for everyday smokes.

What number do you all like and suggestions are welcome. Thanks!!

PS- I thought about ISOM's but seeing as how I am new to all this I am going to cross everything off my Non-ISOM list first. But don't worry I have a list of ISOM's that I would like to try and will cross that bridge when the time comes.

I'm still a hemmingway fan - they are just about the only NC's I smoke these days and they still make me smile.

Rather than box purchases why don't you try some fivers or singles? If there are many NCs you want to try before venturing onto the dark side, why limit yourself to 2 or 3 cigars...what if you buy a box and don't care for them? I'd try as much as I could, which is what I did when I was relatively new to smoking lots of cigars!....Whatever you decide, enjoy!

I would:

Stock the thermo with the smokes in your 120ct, then sell your 120ct and spend the $300 on a second thermo electric. If not, we will be seeing the "my thermo electric is full and I am buying an Avallo 2000...what should I stock it with?" in no time.

I still do that anyway. There are way to many that I like or have yet to give a go to commit to a box that often. I have to really really REALLY love it to do a box.

What about all the above.

I would go with the Padron 1926.

I vote for the Hemingways. I bought a box of Short Stories yesterday-my first box!

Re: $300.00 Budget What Would You Buy?

I would get a cab of BPCs or Party Shorts. Oh, sorry, those aren't on your list. Don't worry, you'll get shoved down that slope soon enough!

My favorite NCs are the AF Hemis and PAM/PAN which ARE on your list, so a box either of those should please you well. However, the other gorillas make a great point to try a few of many different sticks to really get an idea of what you like before you start buying boxes.

Re: $300.00 Budget What Would You Buy?

I would agree, there are so many types and sizes out there, unless you really know what you like, I wouldn't get a box yet. I would even consider paying the extra price if there is a local B&M around so you can get a good variety. Otherwise find an internet retailer that sells singles and make a large purchase of different sticks.

Being new, I thought I knew what I would like before I started. I want out and bought NC montecristos and cohibas, now the few I have left are just sitting in my humidor taking up space. I frown a little whenever I look at them.

I went to a local B&M and picked up around 10 sticks, a couple of Tatuajes, Ashton VSG, padrons, a couple of fuentes. Did I pay a little extra, probably yes, but I didn't have to pay for shipping.

Now, as I smoke the different sticks, I write down my impressions, likes and dislikes. That way once I go through my initial smoking period I can narrow my purchases down. In the future, I will probably pickup boxes of smokes I really like so I can have them on hand and get them cheaper, while still trying different singles to add new smokes to my rotation.

With the number of cigars brands, labels and sizes, I highly doubt anyone has tried them all, even though some people on this forum may come close.

Then once you figure out what type of NC you like, you can forget all that information and start adding ISOMs to your experiences. Hopefully, you want be like me, I haven't found a NC I like more than an ISOM. Padron 1964 Anniversaries and Ashton VSGs come close, very enjoyable smokes, but not the same. I have a couple of Padron 1926 and some tatuajes sitting in my humi, so there is still hope.

If you buy:
5 - $20 dollar sticks
10 - $10 dollar sticks
20 - 5 dollar sticks

That is still 35 sticks, which is more than a single box of padrons (your option #1)

just some options, hope this helps

Re: $300.00 Budget What Would You Buy?

Just to clarify some things. I have smoked all of these cigars already and like them all. That is why I would like to have boxes of them. As for sampling of many different brands and sizes I have a cigar shop right next door to the paint store I manage. This is where the sampling takes place. Sampling at 25% off mind you.

My #1 BOTL just ordered from Famous 68 various super premiums (RP 92 90, partagas blk, torano exodus etc.)for 213.00 dollars also I think $300 will leave you short on the 26 #6s,even so it sounds like good time for you.Have fun...Dave
