Belicosos Fino?

I think I may be running under false assumptions! I have always assumed that Belicosos Fina referred to a specific shape and size of cigar, i.e. as in torpedo shape, around 5 1/2 to 6 inches or so, and somewhere around a 55-60 RG.

ALL cuban belicosos finos I have fit this shape/size, and I had assumed from that experience that this was a set size/shape designation.

I now find that I am probably wrong (or that the current size/shape experience is limited to cubans only). I recently purchased a box of 1994 bolivar (N/C) belicosos finos off the devil site. (I figure for less than $3 per stick, and already 12 years old, this was a deal worth blowing less than $70 on, if they turn out to be dog rockets).

I got the box in today, and find that true to the advertising, they are in original boxes, original seals, nicely aged cello, and appear to have been well maintained. However, these belicosos finos are more like petite corona in shape, say about 6 inches, and 40 RG. This is not a reason for me to be upset, it just raises a question about the use of belicosos finos as a cigar description. It is evidentially NOT a size/shape designator, or maybe the N/C manufacture from 1994 chose to co-op the designation for marketing reasons?

Any ideas form the more experienced/long term BOTL?

Re: Belicosos Fino?

The term belicoso fino is a cuban type/size reference (Belicosos Finos, size = Campana 140 x 20 in length ring is 64 tapered to 52). As is Piramide 156 x 20 in length ring is 64 tapered to 52

Most typical for n/c's are Torpedos 152 x 52

Those (6.0" x 36 ring) are definitely not a "typical" belicoso fino (I just went a looked at them).

Seems like false advertising to me.

Kinda what I was thinking when I saw the lenght/RG posted in the selling data.

However, the box is clearly labled as Belicosos Finos as part of the manufacturer packaging. I put this down as possibily a marketing ploy by Bolivar (N/C) in 1994 to maybe give them more of a cuban mystique!

Incidentially, I smoked one from a fiver I won, but smoked it right out of transit. Not a bad smoke. I plan on letting these rest for a month or more to stablize, and will post some reviews/comparisons to some of the cuban BBFs I have (much newer than 1994), but will still be an interesting comparison!

The words "chalk" and "cheese" spring to mind.

Yup...with N/C's there are no rules...
Churchills larger than double coronas...oh yes
robustos with a RG of about 55-60...got those too...

One of the nice things about cubans...a corona is a corona...a robusto is a robusto with very few exceptions
