Cruising to Alaska
My Wife and I are cruising to Alaska in September aboard the Norwegian Sun. Any advice about cigars aboard ship would be greatly appreciated. I have never been on a cruise so I dont know what to expect. I do know they have a cigar bar aboard ship. I'm kind of hoping to experience my first Isom on this vacation. Thanks for any replys.

Re: Cruising to Alaska
Dunno bout the cigars.. but when you hit Skagway, let me know if they still have the little kids down on the cruise ship docks passing out those stupid little newspapers.. I did that for about 5 summers!
![]() We used to own a house up there, not anymore. Owned a few shops downtown on the boardwalk, but they've since been demolished. The Klondike Picture Emporium (Right next to the Kone Kompany) was owned by my uncle, not sure if it's still there either. Incidentally, if you want to pick up some jewelry of any sort for your wife, go the store called Heart of Broadway. It's owned by my aunt, and my grandparents work there. If you ask for Dewey or Carol Cosgrove, and tell 'em their grandson Nick sent you, they'll give you the best deal that they can. If you've got time, definitely see the Days of '98 show, it's freaking hilarious!

Re: Cruising to Alaska
From Frommers about NCL's Norwegian Suns cigar bar.
"The dimly lit cigar lounge with it's oversized soft leather furniture and out of the way location is the most appealing place on the ship for quiet conversations (unless of course you can't stand smoke)....." Man when people who "can't stand smoke" stick their heads in the door of these lounges they run away like scared rabbits. Love it!! Anyway it sounds like a winner. On the final night (early AM) of our last cruise I found myself out on deck a little after 2AM smoking my last cigar. Sitting out in the harbor with a good smoke and looking at the lights of Vancouver off in the distance as we killed time until we could dock, didn't want it to end. Have had a lot of interesting experiences on cruises like a late night run in on the stern of a ship in Alaska with a ex-Marine. Again into the early hours of the morning swapping stories about his WWII time in the South Pacific and my time in Vietnam as we puffed away and then another time with more BOTL's as we sailed away from Juneau late in the evening. What a sight, so relaxing. Going to Australia/New Zealand on a cruise early in 2008. Wife picked the geographic area, I picked the cruiseline and the ship. My only requirement was it had to have a Cigar lounge. |
