Pre-Embaro Cigars

Someone has a box Partagas (25 demi tip in cellophane) that is Pre-Embargo...they are still in the box and the box is sealed...he has not had them in a humidor...he is offering them to me for $500...any chance at all they are still smokable?..he does not want the seal on the box broken...what would you pay for them as a collector's item? I have no idea about pre-embargo.

Re: Pre-Embaro Cigars

That price does not sound right. And condition depends how they were stored really. If they weren't in a humidor or cabinet, they are dried out beyond belief. They will probably crumble in your hands lol.

Re: Pre-Embaro Cigars

I wouldnt go anywhere near those tbh. most pre embargoes are unsmokable and only usable as a collectors item just because of their age-cigars do not age indefinately. up to 10 years is usually cited as a great age, so beware of hugely aged gars when looking for smokable ones.

Thumbs down Re: Pre-Embaro Cigars

I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, as the saying goes!

Not stored properly, with that much age, they are without a doubt unsmokable. All the oils will have dried up by now and if they're not smokable, what value could they have?

I should add, since they are in bad shape, they are worthless

Spend your money more wisely somewhere else. For that price you can get some quality sticks - "smokable" sticks at that...

Re: Pre-Embaro Cigars

i've had a couple pre-embargos that were great, but they were stored properly.

not trying to start an aguement, but i'm not totally understanding Barics statement about 10 yrs age... for some cigars, they're just getting good at that point.
i'm hoping he didn't mean that 10 yrs is enough age, or that over 10 yrs doesn't benefit a cigar... i don't think that's what he meant though.
if so, there's a very large group of ppl who just spend their entire weekend smoking a lot of cigars from the 60s-80s at the SoCal herf who would disagree (but i think i might be reading into what he said).
but just to clarify for you, that cigars with lots of age can be great if they are stored correctly - that's the key.

if this guys cigars were just left out (and it wasn't in a wine cellar underground), then i bet the cigars aren't in that good of shape and not worth the money.

The oldest smoke I've had was 23 years old and it was heavenly!

It really is too bad they were not stored properly.

Re: Pre-Embaro Cigars

I would buy them if they had been stored in a humi. The Demi-Tips are definitely a collectable. As far as pre-embargos in general not being smokable, that statement is just pure rubbish!

Re: Pre-Embaro Cigars

How did he set the price on them? Just guessing or did someone tell him what to charge. And - have you run the box codes? If I was to spend $500 on pre-embargo's - I'd want to have them verified by a third party.

But given they fact that they are unsmokable - I'd give him $150 for the box simply as a collectable - I mean heck, I got other worthless things that just sit around collecting dust that I paid more than that for -

I am going to be visiting my folks in Hull at the end of this month. Baric, I am going to hunt you down and when I find you I am going upside your head with my newly acquired copy of mrn.
