Re: Can't get past half way
I would attest to the "one-puff-per-minute" approach, particularly on smaller RG sticks. While it's sometimes difficult to resist "hot-boxing" a tasty cigar, slowing things down definitely extends the enjoyment!

Re: Can't get past half way
Color me weird, but I tend to favor the last half of most cigars I smoke. Time between puffs, a nice drinky, and the occasional purge are great components of quality time in the patio.

1. To big of RG or length for that occasion 2. Not the right complementary drink (it's never happened while drinking brandy) 3. If people complain about the smoke that can kill the mood for me 4. The smoke may have been just to strong for your palate ~~Thats just my p.s. I want to visit Africa one day, if you can, post some pics. |

Re: Can't get past half way
My first Ashton Classic was good at first but become bitter and hot about half way through. What I determined my problem was the rate at which I was puffing. Once per minute really does the trick, gives you plenty of time to taste the smoke and calm the heat. Try that, it worked for me!

Re: Can't get past half way
I am a noob here but have been smoking for a couple of years. This is my first post so I will say hi to all the BOTL/SOTL out there. Last night I smoked a RyJ NC, and it started to get bitter with every couple of puffs after about the halfway point. ditched it in the last 1/3. When you stick to the one puff per minute, and it still goes south, time to say goodnite.

Re: Can't get past half way
Greetings. I don't think that this is a problem at all. If you are not enjoying the cigar, put it down. You might try purging, or slowing down as you smoke to see if that affects your experience in a positive way or not.

Re: Can't get past half way
Lots of good input here.
I think that having a beverage handy is a must. I like beer and almost always have a beer with my cigar but if the nicotine buzz from smoking is getting to you sugar is a good way to combat the buzz i.e. a nice Dr. Pepper/Coke/Coolade whatever. There are tons of BOTL that like gars and coffee. Another thing I always think about with cigars the time commitment I'm making. One of the things I like most about cigars (I smoke 1 to 3 cigars a week) is the fact that I have to set aside time to smoke it and know that I'm going to relax for the length of that smoke. If I only have 30 min to and hour I usually break out with a Robusto sized gar. If I'm going to be on the golf course and have all the time in the world then I break out with a double corona or something big. I know this, if I ever feel rushed smoking a cigar the experience sucks and I end it early.
