Little white/yellow dots?
Hey guys...
Did a check on my sticks last night... No signs of beetles (phew), but did notice on 3 sticks little white/yellow dots. I thought it could be plume, but it can't be taken off? Anyone know what they could be? About 1mm in diameter... Min temp n humidity 19c 73% Max temp n humidity 24c 73% Also, whats the best way to lower RH? I leave the humidor open for a few hours and it drops, then when I close it, it climbs to 73% again within a few hours? Thanx |

Re: Little white/yellow dots?
If the cigars in question are cuban (probably are, based on your past posts), then the dots are most likely water spots caused when the sun heats up a moisture drop on the growing tobacco and burns a spot on the tobacco. This is VERY normal for cubans, and not a worry.
Get some 60 or 65% beads from Heartfelt Industries for the humidity control. If you have any humidity aids in the humi, make sure they are dry, or take them out for a while and see if that helps. If you are in winter conditions, this too is more normal than you might think I have to add humidity in hot summer months. In winter, i mostly let the beads do their thing, and humidity stays around the rh rating of the beads. Good luck. |

Re: Little white/yellow dots?
Sure they're not water spots? Are you sure they weren't there when you put them in the humidor? I have some sticks with spots exactly as you describe, and they're definitely water spots. (Water spots, if I understand correctly, occur when rain drops focus sunlight onto the leaf and discolor it. Not unusual with natural wrappers, and totally harmless.)
The humidity question will probably result in a chorus of "Beads! Beads!" from the BOTLs here. I have the opposite problem -- trying to keep the humidity high enough, so I'll let someone more experienced with your problem answer that one.

Re: Little white/yellow dots?
Thanx for your replies...
They are cubans... Guess I just never noticed them before ![]() Wasn't really looking. As for humidity, we don't get beads here, so i'll have to order from overseas. And our winters are very dry, it's our summers that are humid, so I might of just overcompensated with my humipuck... Thanx again ![]() |

Re: Little white/yellow dots?
Many places will ship the beads overseas-i know for a fact that, as Zenistar says, heartfelt will ship beads overseas [to the UK at least]. if it was plume/mould [i know it isnt] but youre quite right in believing you can brush it off-just in case you find any white mould in the future, it comes straight off and is harmless to your gars.
