Re: Mad for Maddies

FWIW... If you're willing to let your maduros rest for, say 6 or 8 months, there are some "value" bundle smokes you might consider to "stock your larder" for summertime:
-- El Mejor Espresso
-- Nestor Reserve
-- Tampa Sweethearts

The first two are readily available on C-bid at VERY good prices (just scored another 25 Nestors this week for aging until late-summer). The Tampas are available through the A. Fuente website.

Well since someone dug this up out of the archives , I will at least make it useful. Upon your recommendation that they are a good smoke once they have had some quality time in the humi I picked up the EMEs. Also some Connies and they are both in the freezer as we speak. That EME box press torpedo shape sure is purty with that dark oily wrapper.

I like the Ashton VSG Beli, CAO Brazilia, 5 Vegas series A, Indian Tabac Super Fuerte, and the CAO MX2. The price range varies but they are all good in their own way.

Re: Mad for Maddies

My tastes have changed somewhat as well. While the maduro is definitely one of my favorite wrappers, I find that I am liking cameroon a lot right now.

Back to the original question, I don't think anybody has mentioned the Fuente Flor Fina 858 maduro. They are quite delicious, rich and aromatic. You can smoke them off the shelf or put them away for ageing.

Re: Mad for Maddies

I had an Indian Tabac Super Fuerte that has been resting for about 4 months and all I can say is that it was a real treat. So if you get any at good deals let them sleep a bit next to those EMEs and you will be happilly rewarded come spring.

Re: Mad for Maddies

I will throw in two more stand-bys that I really enjoy on a daily basis and they are both inexpensive:
Maria Mancini Magic Mountain Maduros-let these rest a little and they are fabulous. I am now smoking some that I laid down about a year ago.
Remedios from JR-excellent pedigree on these and they are past the box problems that gave them a bad name several years ago. Again, some rest time turns them into a good inexpensive smoke.
Since it is the Christmas season, 1 more suggestion, the most expensive here, but still reasonable-La Rosa Especial New Orleans #2 (new blend)-strong and delicious. Smoke great off the truck.

Re: Mad for Maddies

I thought of another brand that is good if you need a smaller smoke-Montecristo Peruvians, either the Buena Fortuna or Fer de Lance maduros are potent little buggers. The natural seems a little spicier, but the maduros still have plenty of bite to them.

Re: Mad for Maddies

cao brazillia, and 5-vegas series A are my 2 favorite maduros. sancho panza double maduros are also good, and the indian tabac super fuerte maduro is another great stick.
in the budget category, the el mejor espresso is a good cheap stick, great flavor.
