Sancho Panza Problems

I recently bought another box of Panza’s double maduro Quixote cigars and have had a problem out of them unraveling. The first one I thought I cut it too far back. The second one I cut with an idiot proof cutter it too unraveled. Last night I smoked a third one and punched it and wouldn’t you know it, it unraveled rather quickly. Any suggestions on what to try now.

Re: Sancho Panza Problems

any chance that they are too dry? Or were too dry at some point in the past?
One thing you can do is just lick under the leaf that's coming up and then smooth it down against the cigar. Sometimes this holds for a while. There's also some kind of cigar glue out there but I've never used it.

I have had some unraveling issues with these as well using my Palio and my punch. I think it just it is a quality issue with these sticks, but for $1.80 a piece I live with it cause they are pretty tasty.

I have never had a problem with them unraveling. I would simply slobber on the head if they refuse to cooperate, that typically solves the problem.

Sounds like how my wife deals with me!

I would let the sit and get back to the proper humidity level. If they still have the unraveling; perhaps call up the place where you bought them? Maybe they'll take care of you. Just don't call up with one stick left.

Re: Sancho Panza Problems

As far as them being dry I’m not sure they have been in the coolerdor for about 2 weeks and it runs at a solid 65%. As far as keeping the wrapper moist I try to and keep it moist and twisted down.

I have been thinking that if they don’t work out I may try the Indian Tabac Maduro instead. Are they a CI only cigar? That’s the only place I have seen them.

Re: Sancho Panza Problems

I have had the same issues with some Quixote. I am on my second box. I have found the the issue is manageable though. The taste and burn of these sticks is just unbeatable at the price point. I don't care if a few of them unravel or not. I do pay extra attention when cutting them though. For me, this is the best maduro in the price range, until you boost the price range up to afford Padron 2000 M...then you have a competition. The IT is alright, but i like the Quixote much better. Best of luck!

I try to keep my humi in the low 60% range, but that is not ideal for NC's. I had wondered if I was the only one with this problem. I have had others with this problem when they have a heavy maduro wrapper (HdM Dark Night last night night as an example). My other "special" cigars are smoking better though.

Funny, I tend to unravel even worse in that situation.

Try a pre-lick and cautious punch with a golf tee. They're fragile but WTH, great price and better taste. It's not a "problem", it's a "characteristic".

Re: Sancho Panza Problems

I've never had any problem with the SPs unravelling, and they're one of my favorites!

However... As with ALL cigars, I've fallen into the habit of doing two things:

1. Walk around with the stogie in my mouth for a few minutes before clipping the head.

2. When lighting, do the "puff & roll" in the direction of the wrapper (usually rolling counter-clockwise).

Good luck!!!

Re: Sancho Panza Problems

I smoked one of these yesterday after reading this thread and did have some unraveling of the wrapper. Seems like a minor inconveinience due to how good this smoke is..
