Oddly enough, the best NC's are not cuban namesakes. Such as fuente and padron, tatuaje, etc...

Yeah it was DR RYJ that got me into it (churchill covered in plume). But i didn't know what i was doing or tasting then, i tend to like the AF and the CAOs the most so far, had a Punch and another RYJ cedros#2 and wasn't that impressed. Thanks for the posts!

I agree. You can't compare NC brand X to Cuban brand X. They are totally different. The latter being much better, imo.

I like Padrons, Toranos, any Pepin blend, LFD's, JDN's, Camacho, Anejo and WOAM from AF, REO's, and many more. Those come to mind immediatly.

Wow not one NC namesake among those (i think, not looking at my acronym cheat sheet)! Sounds like compainies slack off on quality because they already own the big names. I really need to try a Padrons,

I just had a Padron 5000 Maduro last night and it was one of the best smokes I have ever had, I will be buying a box next.

Couldn't agree more with you Greg! From my experience, the "major" NC brands leave something to be desired. I have found that the Pepin blends are my favorite NC's, but the others you mentioned are very good. The PAM's and Anejo's, especially. I'll let you know on the REO's

I agree as well: tatuajes, anejos and padron anniversaries, I can't think of one brand name NC I have like so far.

Stay far far away from NC cohibas, not good at all, IMO. One of the worst cigars I have smoked (I actually tried two of them) and expensive as well. Sometimes buying samplers can really suck. I had a third but decided it was best to experiment and find out the difference between wrapper, binder and filler. Kind of cool actually.

Montecristos are good, but i feel that the NCs with C namesakes too often rely on the name and not the quality to sell.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

If I ever have to recommend a cigar to a non-cigar smoker, I would tell them the following: if they recognize the name, stay away from it - it is not worth the money and is probably not very good either.
