Wrapper not burning?

What can cause this? I smoked a cigar last night, and the wrapper kept not burning. The inside of the cigar would burn fine, but i had to keep using my lighter to burn the wrapper.

Send the wrapper back to your supplier and tell um to filler up.

Re: Wrapper not burning?

Didn't this used to happen with that wrapper they introduced to the market a few years ago? I think it was the "habano 2000" if I'm not mistaken. What cigar was it?

What RH was this cigar kept at? Sounds like this stick may have been over-humidified. Did you just purchase it? Lots of vendors and B&Ms keep their cigars at high RH.

Poorly humidified or really fresh.

What brand, what size?

Re: Wrapper not burning?

Some of the early Onyx 852's had no draw and an asbestos wrapper that would not burn no matter what you did. Also had it once on a Punch After Dinner MM that was too moist.

May not be humidity though. I had two cigars (different brand) from the same place at the same time that were both kept in the same humidor. One burnt super straight- the other had some mild burn problems including a bit of tunneling like the OP posted.

It could be as specific as the crop that wrapper came from as opposed to the filler.

Maybe not. I don't know.

Just a bad stick- oh well. Try again next time.

Just make sure your Rh isn't over 70%- and if it is at 70% consider going down to 65%. But I am just saying that it could be an isolated case.

Condition is called "tunneling". You can do a search for more info, but basically you are 99% probability to be correct in your assumption about over-humidification. Mostly I have to keep my sticks around 63-65% to avoid this, especially with the humidity in Alabama. In drier climates, you probably need higher Rh to avoid too dry wrappers, which will tend to split and fall apart. One of the reasons to let cigars rest in your humi for a couple of weeks after purchasing, to let Rh stabalize. But don't feel alone, I still smoke the ocassional stick straight out of the shipping box!!! But mostly, when I do that, I run into the "too dry" problems!
