Question: Beads and Brittle Cigars

Ok, so I just got done smoking an Fuente gifted to me in a bomb (I believe from Rockstar when I was Santa Claus). Well, needless to say, I haven't been taking good care of these babies and my humidor, I would just use the little pieces of styrofoam (sp?) that came with the humi along with the basic hygrometer.

I need to buy some beads and I need to buy a hygrometer which I plan to do ASAP...the thing I want to know is if I buy the "65% Heartfelt Beads 2 Ounce Humi-Tube" does that come filled with the beads or is that just a holder that I can buy seperate? I have a 150 count humi. Maybe I should go up to the 150-300 tube?

Also, what would be a good, cost effective, hygrometer? I'm afraid that my cigars might be in bad shape, if not gone already...the binder broke and pieces of the gar' started breaking off. I smoked it still but it was falling apart from first cut. Are these repairable if I get beads and don't touch the gars' till they get decent humidification?

College boy and his expenses left the humi unattended...so, hopefully I can boost these babies back up to good health.

Any info would be helpful, thanks guys.

-Mackey

They sell the humi-tubes with beads and without, just read the description. If the wrapper of the gar is cracked there's no repairing it, but minor dryness will be resolved with proper humidification.

Best hygro for the money is to buy the white remote temp/hygro from Radio shack. You're supposed to pair it with a digital readout, but you dont have to.

This is my setup. Viper Beads and the Radioshack Hygro. Holds at 65% no problem- with occasional rewetting of the beads (once a week tops) because I open/close the humi a lot and put new sticks in/take sticks out which changes rh a bit.

Re: Question: Beads and Brittle Cigars

Take your time when restoring cigars-thats the key. forget smoking them for a good few months and only raise the rh for them a little bit at the time. as has been mentioned if the wrapper is cracked you will be unable to mend it but it may still be smokable if you find some way to hold it together-perhaps wrapping paper around the cigar so it doesnt fall to pieces when youre smoking it. obviously do not let the paper get set on fire, its only meant ot help bind the cigar together until the ash reaches the broken wrapper and does the job for you.

Heres my small desktop set up. Small tube filled with 65% beads but for some reason the rh is around 68-69, I think its because my seal sucks. And I have a rad shack digital that I bought for 20 bucks that I velcroed in the spot where the analog would have been.
